Box Office: ‘Joker 2’ Singing Off-Key With $20 Million Opening Day

As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the opening weekend performance of “Joker: Folie à Deux” has left me somewhat perplexed. The original Joker film was a masterpiece, a true game-changer in the world of comic book adaptations, and it’s disappointing to see its sequel underperforming at the domestic box office.

As a passionate fan, I must admit that the anticipation for “Joker: Folie à Deux” has been dampened by its initial performance at the domestic box office. After raking in $20 million from 4,102 screens on its opening day and previews, it seems that Warner Bros.’ sequel to the 2019 DC Comic book film “Joker” is projected to open with earnings below $50 million by industry rivals.

Over the upcoming weekend, it was anticipated that “Joker 2” would earn between $50 million and $65 million at the box office for its premiere. However, despite being poised to lead the domestic charts, the original “Joker” managed a considerably larger opening of $96.2 million.

The film titled “Joker” generated an astonishing $1.07 billion in earnings worldwide from a minimal budget of just $65 million, whereas the upcoming film “Folie à Deux,” with a whopping $200 million budget, has not garnered as many favorable reviews as its predecessor did.
