Remake of Metal Gear Solid 1 Would Be More Difficult Than Remaking MGS3, Konami Says. Company Wants to Develop Franshise for the Next 10-50 Years

As a longtime Metal Gear Solid fan who grew up playing these iconic games, the latest news about the potential future of the series has me both excited and cautiously optimistic. Noriaki Okamura’s interview hints at new installments and even a possible remake of the original MGS, which fills my heart with joy, but also reminds me of the rocky road we’ve had since Kojima’s departure in 2015.

It’s possible that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater isn’t the only upcoming project in the franchise from Konami. In an interview with Famitsu, series producer Noriaki Okamura mentioned that Konami is considering the future installments of the series. However, they have not made any concrete decisions as they are waiting to see how Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is received by fans.

At the same time, Okamura explained that the development of a remake of the first Metal Gear Solid would be much more difficult than in the case of MGS3 , as it would require major changes and adding new elements. Of course, the game had already received one remake in the form of 2004’s Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for GameCube, but that production mainly improved the graphics without completely overhauling the gameplay.
2. In the interview, Okamura also admitted that one of Konami’s priorities is to develop a path that will enable the Metal Gear brand to survive next 10-50 years. Since Konami ended their collaboration with the Metal Gear series’ designer Hideo Kojima in 2015, they developed Metal Gear Survive; however, its poor performance led to a significant hiatus for the franchise. Lately, there has been a shift in strategy. Last year saw the launch of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, which compiled Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater into a single collection.

It’s been confirmed that there will be a second volume in the MGS Master Collection. At present, the company hasn’t disclosed which games will be part of this collection, but it looks like it could feature Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and possibly even Metal Gear Acid and Metal Gear Acid 2.

It’s no wonder that Konami is cautious about remaking Metal Gear Solid, given its potential high cost. Instead, they’re waiting to evaluate the success of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater first.
