GOING DUTCH (AGAIN)
As a seasoned film lover with a penchant for international cinema and a soft spot for stories of resilience, I find myself exhilarated by these recent developments in the world of movies. The appointment of Marten Rabarts as head of IFFR Pro signals a promising future for the International Film Festival Rotterdam, a festival that has always been close to my heart. Rabarts’ extensive global career and deep-rooted legacy in the Netherlands make him an ideal choice to nurture talent and provide them with the tools and networks to develop projects and careers.
The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) has chosen Marten Rabarts to lead the IFFR Pro, its market section, starting immediately. Previously, Rabarts was the festival director at the New Zealand International Film Festival. In addition, he boasts a long career with notable impact in the Netherlands, having served as head of EYE International (formerly SeeNL) for four years, where he promoted Dutch film and film culture globally, and as artistic director of the Binger Filmlab in Amsterdam for 12 years. Rabarts will collaborate closely with IFFR’s festival director, Vanja Kaludjercic, and report to chief of content, Melissa van der Schoor.
At the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), the IFFR Pro initiative encompasses various platforms such as CineMart, Pro Hub, and talent development programs like Rotterdam Lab. The festival sees these initiatives as fostering new talent and equipping them with essential resources and connections to nurture their projects and careers.
From January 30th to February 9th, 2025, the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) will be held. The IFFR Pro event will run from February 1st to February 5th during this period.
BHATT SERIOUSLY

MONETIZATION MAN
As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Mukesh Ambani’s Indian streaming giant, JioCinema, has appointed me as their new Chief Business Officer! In this role, I’ll be focusing on driving monetization strategies, aiming to boost revenue through sports and entertainment content. Coming from YouTube India where I served as Managing Director, I bring over two decades of experience, with 13 years at Google, brief stints at McKinsey, and time spent at Hindustan Unilever under my belt. I’m a proud alumnus of The Wharton School and St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. Here’s to a cinematic journey ahead with JioCinema!
The appointment falls in line with JioCinema’s declared objective of improving its technical prowess and digital user interface. Chatterjee will collaborate closely with Kiran Mani, the CEO for digital initiatives at Viacom18, which is JioCinema’s parent company.
HOMEBOUND HOUNDS
The Singapore-based animal welfare organization, Save Our Street Dogs (SOSD), has unveiled a heartwarming anthology film titled “Homebound.” This movie is composed of five short stories that highlight the inspiring journeys of resilience, hope, and healing among dogs rescued in Singapore. Notably, this project is executive produced by esteemed figure Daniel Yun (“I Not Stupid”), with MediaCorp actors Rui En (“Happy Family”) and Lawrence Wong (“Story of Yanxi Palace”) making their directorial debuts through their individual SOSD short films. The rest of the films are helmed by directors Tejas Ewing (“Gaia”), Jason Lee (“The Buddy”), and co-directors Jeremy Kieran Ng (“Summerdaze”) and Zhang Minhua (“Summerdaze”).
The premiere of “Homebound” is scheduled for Oct. 30 at a charity event in Singapore, but the international distribution rights are still undecided.
