‘Criminal Minds’ Alum Matthew Gray Gubler to Star in CBS Drama Pilot ‘Einstein’

As an ardent fan of Matthew Gray Gubler‘s versatile acting prowess, I am absolutely thrilled to see him returning to CBS for the pilot “Einstein.” His charismatic portrayal of Dr. Spencer Reid in “Criminal Minds” was nothing short of remarkable, and his subsequent roles in various shows and films have only added to my admiration for this multi-talented artist.

Matthew Gray Gubler could soon be making his return to CBS.

It’s been confirmed that the actor will take on the main role for the pilot “Einstein” at the television network. This series, which includes humorous elements within a dramatic context, has been previously announced as in production since August. It is an adaptation of a German series with the same title.

Gubler is set to portray the role of Lewis Einstein, a great-grandson of Albert Einstein. This character is known as a professor at Princeton, although he occasionally misses classes. He’s often irreverent and misguided, but his genius and renowned name put undue pressure on him. By utilizing his intellect to solve murders, there might be a chance that it provides direction and purpose to his life for the first time.

Matthew Gray Gubler is primarily recognized for his portrayal of Dr. Spencer Reid in the long-running TV crime drama “Criminal Minds” on CBS, a role he held from its debut in 2005 up until its conclusion in 2020. During this time, he also took charge as director for several episodes within the series. Interestingly, unlike many other main cast members, he did not make an appearance in the revival “Criminal Minds: Evolution” on Paramount+, owing to scheduling conflicts. In addition to his work on “Criminal Minds,” Gubler has also made appearances in various TV shows such as “Dollface” on Hulu and films like “(500) Days of Summer,” “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou,” and the “Alvin and the Chipmunk” movie series.

He is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Andy Breckman is penning and overseeing the initial episode, while Randy Zisk is directing and serving as an executive producer as well. Tariq Jalil, Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia, and Laura Beetz from Seven One Studios International are also executive producers. Gubler is not only acting in the production but is also a producer. CBS Studios will handle the production.

Deadline first reported Gubler’s casting in the pilot.
