‘The Simpsons’ Spoofs ‘The White Lotus’ Opening Credits With This Spot-On Parody (EXCLUSIVE)

As a long-time Simpsons enthusiast and an ardent fan of satire, I can’t help but appreciate the cleverness of this new episode, “The Yellow Lotus.” The show’s creators have always been masters at parodying popular culture, and their take on “The White Lotus” is no exception.

On the latest episode aired on Sunday, “The Simpsons” visit “The Yellow Lotus,” a luxurious resort that unfortunately becomes a setting for encounters with death during their vacation. This plotline bears some resemblance to “The White Lotus,” and it’s no coincidence since the show is mocking Mike White’s Emmy-winning HBO series, even copying its eerily captivating opening credits as a starting point.

The Simpsons” provides some lyrics to a ‘White Lotus’-like instrumental, which go: “Hot bodies, and crime/ Elite individuals acting improperly/ Makes you feel superior being less affluent and unrecognized/ Statues symbolizing power and endless brunches/ Wondering how they consume like that while staying slim/ Are they using Ozempic?

Join “The Yellow Lotus” this Sunday, October 6th at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. Kelsey Grammer returns as Sideshow Bob, a character who always seems to be connected to murder cases. Also making an appearance is Chloe Fineman from Saturday Night Live. This episode marks the second installment of Season 36 and follows last week’s unexpected “series finale” tease.

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share that the enchanting melody in the “Yellow Lotus” song is my creation, Kara Talve. Beyond this captivating tune, the storyline of the episode was skillfully penned by Loni Steele Sosthand and expertly directed by Matthew Faughnan. Known as the principal composer on “The Simpsons,” Kara’s other notable works include “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” and “Faraway Downs.

In 2022, Cristobal Tapia de Veer’s “Aloha” theme from “The White Lotus” series took home the Emmy Award for outstanding original main title theme music. Interestingly, De Veer also garnered two more Emmys that year – one for music composition in a limited or anthology series, movie, or special (original dramatic score), and another for music composition in a series (original dramatic score) in 2023.

Here are the openers to the two seasons of “The White Lotus”:

The ‘Simpsons’ spoof is heavily influenced by Season 2, featuring a revamped opening theme by de Veer, which is now called ‘Renaissance.’ The design for the Season 2 title sequence was created by Katrina Crawford and Mark Bashore from Plains of Yonder studio.

As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that “The Yellow Lotus” is among the satirical pieces gracing Season 36 of everyone’s favorite animated series, “The Simpsons.” In a few weeks, the creative minds behind “Robot Chicken” (Stoopid Buddy) will team up with the show for their take on “Venom” in this year’s annual “Treehouse of Horror” special. This time around, Homer finds himself facing off against an intriguing character named “Denim.” The 35th installment of “Treehouse of Horror” promises to be the scariest Halloween special ever produced by the show!

For this Simpsons season, ‘Treehouse of Horror’ isn’t the only eerie event. The producers have revealed that another chilling trilogy is in store, themed around Ray Bradbury stories and titled ‘Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes’.
