As a seasoned gamer and horror enthusiast with a penchant for the macabre and gruesome, I can confidently say that Terrifier 3 has certainly lived up to its reputation of pushing the envelope when it comes to graphic kills. Having attended the Fantastic Fest world premiere, I was left in a state of both awe and revulsion by what I witnessed on screen – a shower scene so brutal and visceral, it’s destined to become the talk of the town.
In a week, Terrifier 3 will be gracing our screens, and here’s an inside look at how they managed to film the horror sequel’s most jaw-dropping moment.
The Terrifier series, recognized for its gruesome slaughters, presents such vividly terrifying deaths that selecting the top kill from the Terrifier films proved quite challenging.
As a die-hard fan, I’m eagerly anticipating Terrifier 3 to surpass itself in the art of creating chilling, gory deaths. Having been fortunate enough to witness the movie at its world premiere at Fantastic Fest, I can vouch that this sequel truly pushes the envelope when it comes to taste and moral decency.
Among all the intense moments, the most disturbing one is a shower scene from Terrifier 3. In our review, we described it as follows: “A brutal murder, sure to spark conversation among viewers and delight hardcore franchise fans, occurs in a bathroom where two young lovers are sharing a shower.
“This is where Art enters the picture, leading to what might be the most extreme kill ever seen in Terrifier. During a question-and-answer session following the screening at Fantastic Fest, director Damien Leone shared insights about assembling that sequence, stating: “We filmed it for approximately five days initially. Later, we returned to shoot it for an extra three days. The special effects – one day could be spent solely on severing an arm correctly, and that took a while.
Leone additionally discussed the challenge of aiming higher, expressing it as: “Each film must strive to surpass the intimacy of its bedroom scene (Terrifier 2) and the intensity of its hacksaw scene (Terrifier 1), so there was a considerable amount of thought put into that process.
Similar to most action sequences where a character is killed, we capture it on camera, but we’re seldom satisfied with the result, leading us to spend an additional month or two fine-tuning the special effects. After that, we go back and film more close-up shots for added detail.
