Did Rings of Power Season 2 end in Rivendell? Director confirms answer

As a lifelong fan of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth saga, I’ve followed every twist and turn with bated breath since the first hint of Amazon’s Rings of Power series. And let me tell you, the Season 2 finale had my heart racing like a hobbit on Bilbo’s birthday! The fall of Eregion was as shocking as a sudden Orc ambush in the dark forests of Mirkwood, leaving our beloved Elves scrambling for safety.

In the heart of Season 2’s finale, I found myself in a verdant valley fortified by magical rings, cascading waterfalls all around – yup, that sounds like Rivendell alright! But let me spill the beans, it was indeed the legendary haven we were seeking.

In the final episode of Season 2, the city of Eregion gets destroyed. The Orcs led by Adar invade it, turning its rich history into ashes and its magnificent structures into ruins.

With Celebrimbor slain and Galadriel incapacitated following her confrontation with Sauron, Gil-galad, Elrond, and Arondir are left with no alternative but to escape alongside any remaining allies. They manage to locate a secluded valley in the northern region, a tranquil sanctuary nestled amidst nature’s beauty – for the moment, at least – away from the tumultuous world around them.

Luckily, the Elven rings provide a safe haven for the Elves, serving as a sanctuary for them and anyone else granted permission to reside there. For even the most casual Lord of the Rings enthusiast, it appears and feels remarkably similar to Rivendell, save for its name, and you would be almost correct in making that observation.

Charlotte Brändström, the episode’s director, informed TopMob: “It’s headed towards Rivendell, yes, it made a pause along the journey.

Did Rings of Power Season 2 end in Rivendell? Director confirms answer

Upon reaching Rivendell within the Lord of the Rings films, the sight is simply awe-inspiring – an architectural marvel crafted by Elves and among the most secure locales in all of Middle-earth.

Based on Tolkien’s works, Elrond established Rivendell following the siege of Eregion during the Second Age, more precisely in the year 1697. It is also recognized by other names, such as Imladris and the Last Homely House. However, the timeline presented in The Rings of Power may not align perfectly with this specific date.

We also spoke to Robert Aramayo, who plays Elrond in the series, and asked him if they end up Rivendell. “Even if it were, I don’t think they’d know… lore-wise, it’s not, ‘Oh we’ve arrived in this magical place,’” he explained.

This spot offers a tactical edge at the current time, evolving into what is known as the Last Homely House and later as Imladris. It’s debatable whether they would recognize it, even if they were there.

We also spoke to Elrond’s actor about that Galadriel kiss, which he said he was “shocked” by.
