‘Love Is Blind’ Creator Reveals Why They Didn’t Follow Leo and Brittany After Pods, if They’ll Be at Reunion (EXCLUSIVE)

As a lifelong cinephile and ardent fan of reality TV, I find myself both intrigued and somewhat perplexed by the production decisions made in “Love Is Blind” Season 7. The unique storyline of Brittany Wisniewski and Leo Braudy was an exciting deviation from the usual format, only to be abruptly cut short with their non-selection for further follow-up.

⚠️ CAUTION: This tale unveils spoilers from the initial six episodes of “Love Is Blind” Season 7, currently available for streaming on Netflix.

As a die-hard fan of love stories unfolding on screen, I’ve got to clarify something about the show “Love Is Blind.” Contrary to what you might think, the series doesn’t follow every couple who get engaged in those pods due to practical reasons. However, Season 7 brought a fresh twist: For the first time, we got to witness the entire journey of one unique pair – Brittany Wisniewski and Leo Braudy. From their heart-to-heart talks in the pods, their engagement, and their long-awaited meeting, it was all captured for us to see. But then came a surprising turn: They weren’t among the chosen couples at the end.

The producers didn’t select Brittany and Leo as part of the six couples to carry on their adventure in Mexico, as indicated by the card during the fifth episode. Instead, they decided to travel to Mexico themselves, and they ended their engagement a few weeks afterwards.

The question might be: What was the point of including them in the series if you weren’t going to develop their stories further? Chris Coelen, the creator and executive producer, provides an explanation for this.

In an interview with EbMaster, Coelen, the head of Kinetic Content, explains that there are various methods for creating unscripted shows. At times, the outcome is already planned during filming. However, in our case, everything is filmed spontaneously and it’s only afterward that we assemble the footage to determine the sequence of events leading up to the end. We have the financial resources to track five couples, and occasionally we manage six, arranging our teams accordingly.

This season, seven couples got engaged so one had to be cut.

When choosing which couples to support on our journey, we considered those with a higher likelihood of getting married authentically,” he notes. By ‘authentic,’ he means those most likely to actually make it to the altar and say their vows. We believed that the six couples we eventually followed seemed more dedicated to tying the knot, appeared genuinely invested in the commitment. Conversely, Leo and Brittany were the couple we felt least likely to get married, so we decided not to follow them after the pods ended.

The narratives of the main characters, Hannah Jiles and Nick Dorka, were deeply connected with other cast members that the producers focused on. Leo found himself caught in a dilemma between Hannah and Brittany; initially, Hannah expressed a stronger interest in Leo, but eventually chose Nick over him.

As we trailed Hannah and Nick, it became evident that Leo played a significant role in Hannah’s narrative. It’s hard to discuss Hannah’s journey without delving into Leo’s story, and vice versa. Similarly, Leo’s tale is deeply intertwined with Brittany’s. Consequently, we structured their story in this manner, as they are fascinating individuals. However, we also chose not to continue documenting them. Our instinctive choices have proven accurate throughout, and it turns out that the people we decided not to follow or those who left the experiment never ended up together – just like with them. It doesn’t mean their journey wouldn’t have been intriguing to explore; it simply unfolded in a manner consistent with our expectations.

The entire cast has been made aware that they might not get selected for a post-show travel itinerary to Mexico. Consequently, if they’re not chosen, Brittany and Leo opted to organize their own vacation in Miami instead.

Coelen believes they’ll undoubtedly attend the reunion. Moreover, she hints at the possibility of delving deeper into other couples’ lives in the future. It sounds intriguing, but there are complexities involved, and there’s quite a tale to be told.

Enjoy the first six episodes of “Love Is Blind” currently streaming on Netflix! The next three episodes, from 7 to 9, will be available starting October 9th.
