‘NCIS’ Alum Pauley Perrette Will ‘Never Return’ to Acting and Is a ‘Different Person Now’: ‘Going Back Would Take Away From This Life of True Authenticity’

As a seasoned movie buff with a penchant for delving into the lives of actors, I can empathize with Pauley Perrette‘s decision to step away from acting. Having witnessed her transformation from a budding actress in the ’90s to an international sensation on “NCIS,” I can understand the allure of escaping into fictional roles, especially when real life presents its share of challenges. However, her pursuit of authenticity and desire for a truthful existence resonates deeply with me, as I too yearn for the genuine in my cinematic experiences.

Actress Pauley Perrette, best known for her role on “NCIS”, recently shared with Hello magazine that she has no plans to return to acting. Her last significant acting role was as the lead in the CBS sitcom “Broke” which aired only one season and 13 episodes in 2020. Following this, Perrette announced her retirement and now states unequivocally that she will not reappear on screen.

As much as I appreciate the advantages it brought to my life, I’ve evolved into someone new. Now, I yearn to experience everything – the joy, the hardship, and the pain – fully, so I can truly be myself at all times. It takes a great deal of courage for me to admit this, but it’s honestly how I feel.” (As a film enthusiast, I might say: “In gratitude for the opportunities it provided, I’ve grown into a different person. Now, I crave the full spectrum of experiences – the highs, the lows, and the heartaches – so I can fully embrace who I am. It takes a lot of courage to admit this, but that’s honestly how I feel.”)

During this stage in my existence, I yearn for genuine reality in all aspects, and as a performer, there have been times when acting served as a remarkable refuge. As she explained, it was almost like an addiction because I didn’t have to be myself; instead, I could assume someone else’s identity. My character wasn’t burdened with the troubles that I was grappling with…That’s why I prefer documentaries, as they present truth. To me, returning to acting would undermine the genuine authenticity I strive to maintain in every moment of my life.

Perrette got her acting start in the 1990s and built a resume that included guest appearances on television shows like “Frasier” and performances in movies like “Almost Famous.” She gained recognition worldwide when she was cast as Abby Sciuto in CBS’ “NCIS,” which premiered in 2003. Perrette stayed with the show through 2018, which included 15 seasons and 352 episodes. Her character quickly became a fan favorite and even crossed over onto episodes of franchise spinoffs like “NCIS: Los Angeles” and “NCIS: New Orleans.”

Currently, “NCIS” continues to air on television, but you won’t find actress Paulette Perrette in it at the moment. For now, she seems to have taken a break from acting. However, the recent news of Daniel Day-Lewis returning to acting after seven years might rekindle hopes among Perrette’s fans that she might make a comeback to our screens as well.
