A Big Change Is Coming To Valorant, But You Might Not Notice It Right Away

As a long-time Valorant enthusiast with countless hours under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and curiosity as I hear about the game’s transition to Unreal Engine 5. While I’m not expecting a dramatic visual overhaul right away, I trust in Riot Games and their commitment to pushing boundaries within the gaming world.

According to Anna Donlon, the head of the Valorant studio at Riot, the game Valorant is moving over to Unreal Engine 5. However, it’s important not to expect a dramatic visual upgrade right away with this transition. Instead, this move is considered “essential” for creating “novel interactive opportunities” within the Valorant universe in the future.

As an enthusiastic admirer, I had the privilege of attending Unreal Fest Seattle 2024, where none other than Donlon graced the stage. Her focus was on Valorant and the pivotal role that Unreal Engine has played in shaping this remarkable hero shooter. She proudly shared that our team has extracted every last drop of potential from UE4, and now we’re embarking on a new journey with UE5. I understand it’s challenging to transition mid-game development, especially for a live-service game like Valorant, but Donlon firmly believes it’s an essential step forward.

Subsequently, Donlon tempered the anticipation of significant visual changes as they transitioned to Unreal Engine 5. Nevertheless, the studio leader hinted at an enlargement of the Valorant universe.

According to Donlon, this update won’t drastically alter Val’s appearance or functionality immediately. However, it’s worth noting that developers at Riot are appreciative of Unreal Engine’s capabilities and eager about the possibilities UE5 offers for our future projects.

It’s possible that the developers are currently engaged in projects related to Val’s universe that I’m not at liberty to discuss. Alternatively, they could be brainstorming ideas for broadening the Val universe to offer fresh gaming experiences.

Furthermore, Donlon acknowledged that Unreal Engine was instrumental in facilitating the console release of Valorant earlier this year. This move appears to have proven fruitful, as the hero shooter has become one of the most popular titles on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

In the month of August, Valorant unveiled Vyse, an innovative agent whose skills primarily focus on stun-based strategies. Notably, she can influence your weapon choice towards a less optimal one for a tactical edge. For further insights, explore TopMob’s Valorant review.
