As a lifelong cinephile who has witnessed the evolution of cinema, I am genuinely excited about the upcoming release of “Frieda’s Case.” The story of Frieda Keller, a brave woman fighting for justice against all odds in a patriarchal society, resonates deeply with my belief in the power of film to inspire change.
In Berlin, Picture Tree International has obtained the global distribution rights for “Frieda’s Case,” directed by Maria Brendle who was nominated for an Academy Award. This movie will make its debut at the Zurich Film Festival on October 9 as a special screening. Praesens Film has scheduled a Swiss release for January 23, 2025.
Prior to its debut, the exclusive international trailer for the upcoming film by EbMaster will be unveiled ahead of time, providing viewers with an initial glimpse into the unfolding drama.
After its initial screening at Zurich, “Frieda’s Case” is set to be presented to global distributors at this year’s Asian Film Market in Busan, MIA Rome, and the American Film Market in Las Vegas. It is during these events that the film will make its official market debut.
The movie ‘Frieda’s Case,’ inspired by real events and set in 1904, follows the heart-wrenching courtroom struggle of Frieda Keller, a young seamstress falsely accused of murdering her child. Her quest for justice serves as a potent mirror to the inequalities women faced within a patriarchal judicial system, prompting discussions about societal values and the fight for gender equality. This period drama, jointly produced by Condor Films and SRF Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen, is based on Michèle Minelli’s novel ‘Die Verlorene,’ or ‘The Lost One.’
Brendle stated, ” ‘Frieda’s Case’ offers more than just a movie-watching experience; it’s also a plea for empathy and societal transformation. The powerful women characters within the narrative symbolize the ongoing fight for gender equality.
In this movie, Julia Buchmann portrays Frieda Keller, while Max Simonischek and Stefan Merki play the lawyers who find themselves entangled in a landmark court case.
Brendle received a nomination for an Academy Award for her short movie titled “Ala Kachuu – Take and Run.” Her first full-length work, “Frieda’s Case,” is now being presented.
