As a seasoned space adventurer with countless hours spent traversing galaxies and making tough decisions, I can confidently say that the Serpents Path questline in Starfield Shattered Space has been one of my most challenging yet rewarding experiences. From the moment I entered the Mourning Ship Cockpit to the final conversation with Malibor Dul’Kemf, every step was filled with intrigue and excitement.
I’m thrilled beyond words! The long-awaited Shattered Space expansion for Starfield has arrived, and it’s time to delve into the House Va’ruun storyline. As I traverse through the hallowed city of Dazra, I’ll uncover the rich history that shapes this faction. But be warned, a crucial decision awaits me concerning the Effigies – a choice that could alter the course of my journey!
Of course, Starfield offers some challenging decisions in its quests. In The Duel, who do you decide to tranquilize and which weapon or tool do you select? Additionally, when choosing a ship, which one do you opt for? Now, let’s add another question to the mix: Which Effigy should you pick on the Serpents Path quest and how will it affect your journey’s outcome?
Fortunately, let’s delve into the challenge for a better understanding of the results. Here is a guide on finishing the Serpent’s Path mission, along with suggestions for the appropriate Effigy to acquire.
How to complete the Serpents Path quest
Step One: Blow out the candle
As soon as you step into The Serpent’s Path, you’ll encounter intriguing tales about House Va’ruun (should you be inclined to delve deeper). But don’t worry if you’re not, simply move along the passages till you spot a Shrine up ahead.
Inaza will explain the group’s details and request that you extinguish the candle. Go ahead and do so, because it will unlock the door on your right.
Step Two: Cast aside your burdens
Next, pass through the door and continue along the path until you encounter another shrine. This one requires you to discard something of significance, usually an item that’s not crucial to your journey. It would be wise to choose an item you can easily part with, such as a non-essential weapon.
Once this is done, you’re free to head to the next Shrine.
Step Three: Make a leap of faith
This task requires a bit of trust; go to the edge on the right side of the Shrine, then take a leap.
Instead of leaping directly into the water beneath you, consider jumping to the ledge on the opposite side first.
Once across, follow the path through the door to the next Shrine, located inside a large cave.
Step Four: Meditate
When you’re inside the big cave, make sure to gather as many things as possible, but only if you don’t typically keep a lot of items in your backpack.
Follow the path until you reach the next Shrine, but maintain a safe distance due to a corrosive substance in front. Later on, after Inaza narrates his tale, you’ll be instructed to ‘contemplate’ within the water. This process might reduce your health slightly, yet it shouldn’t put you in any real peril.
Step five: A sacrifice
Discarding an object or weapon is regrettable as it stands, but upon reaching the subsequent Shrine, another concession will be required of you.
As a devoted admirer, I must mention that the Shrine lies somewhat distant, yet fear not the journey! Instead, fix your gaze upon the metallic doors to your lower left, for it’s there that the crucial detail awaits.
All you need to do is kill the baby Groat to unlock the door above the cage.
Step six: Choose your Effigy
To reach the final rite, you’ll pass through the doors. Here, you’ll be asked to select two Figurines that resonate most with your beliefs and place them on an altar. There are four distinct options provided, so it’s all about choosing the ones that align best with your thoughts.
After completing the task, position each item on the altars flanking the main sanctuary to the left and right, then proceed through the doors for a conversation with Inaza. She will bestow upon you a new title, instructing you later to confer with Malibor Dul’Kemf in the High Council.
Step seven: Speak to the high council
So, simply head through the elevator and up to the Mourning Ship Cockpit. Inside will be three members of the high council, who will explain what happened to the House and grant you your next quest.
With that, Starfield Shattered Space’s Serpents Path will be complete.
Which Effigy should you choose?
To be honest, the character Effigy you pick in Starfield Shattered Space won’t significantly alter your gameplay experience; it just influences the name you’ll be recognized by among the stars.
Previously, I mentioned that during the Serpent’s Path quest, you are presented with four options: Devotion, Obedience, Strength, and Perseverance Effigies to choose from.
Below we’ve listed all the combinations and their titles:
- Devotion and Obedience = Reverant
- Devotion and Strength = Harbinger
- Perseverance and Devotion = Diviner
- Perseverance and Obedience = Adherent
- Strength and Obedience = Armiger
- Strength and Perseverance = Vindicator
In choosing a title for your adventure, there’s no need to worry about its influence as it holds no bearing on your journey. Instead, go with the one that resonates with you the strongest or select the two effigies that best represent who you are.
So, that’s how to complete the Starfield Shattered Space Serpents Path questline. While building up the courage to kill the adorable baby Groat, be sure to check out how to get the REV-8 vehicle or the best open-world games like Starfield you just have to try out after you’ve completed the DLC.
