As a seasoned cinephile who’s traversed the labyrinth of human emotions through the lens of countless films, I must say that the trailer for “Babygirl” has piqued my curiosity like no other. The intricate dance between power, desire, and taboo in this erotic thriller promises a captivating exploration of our dual nature – a theme close to my heart (and soul, if we’re being dramatic).

As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that I recently got a sneak peek at the trailer for A24’s upcoming erotic thriller, “Babygirl.” This captivating movie made its premiere in competition at the 81st Venice Film Festival on August 30 and is set to hit theaters across the nation on Christmas Day. The cherry on top? Nicole Kidman took home the Best Actress prize at Venice for her stunning performance in this film!

The movie centers around Nicole Kidman’s character, a high-powered businesswoman, who risks her career and family by engaging in a passionate relationship with her younger colleague (Harris Dickinson). In addition to Kidman, the cast includes Antonio Banderas, Sophie Wilde, Esther McGregor, Victor Slezak, Vaughan Reilly, and Leslie Silva.

At Venice, filmmaker Halina Reijn expressed her fascination with the complexities of human nature, stating that each of us harbors hidden desires within us, which we may never disclose to others. This film is an effort to shed light, without passing judgment, on the internal struggles that define our characters. In her perspective, feminism stands for the liberty to explore a woman’s weaknesses, affection, guilt, anger, and primal instincts.

This movie represents the third joint project of Reijn and A24, who previously distributed “Instinct” in 2019 and “Bodies Bodies Bodies” in 2022 – both under her direction. Notably, she is also involved as a screenwriter and producer for this film. In addition to these roles, Christine D’Souza Gelb, Erika Hampson, and Zach Nutman serve as executive producers. David Hinojosa and Julia Oh take on the producing duties.
