While Game of Thrones has become well-known for its dragons, another fantasy show actually features even more. Generally, fantasy stories work especially well as full-length movies, allowing for grand storytelling. However, both television and film adaptations of these stories face difficulties in bringing them to life.
Fantasy stories are often complex, requiring skillful world-building and memorable characters. It becomes even trickier when writers add huge magical creatures like dragons – beings that can fly, breathe fire, and even possess knowledge of old, forgotten languages.
Dragons were a key part of Game of Thrones from the beginning, and by the end of the series, Daenerys’ dragons had become incredibly powerful. However, despite being impressive, these dragons don’t quite stand out compared to dragons in other fantasy series, like Dragon Ball Super.
Dragon Ball Super’s Super Shenron Takes Dragons To A Galactic Level
The world of Dragon Ball and its many sequels and movies is unique. Originally a Japanese comic, Dragon Ball first became hugely popular in Asia. Once it was translated into English, it quickly gained a following in Western countries, proving its widespread appeal and solidifying its place as a major animated franchise.
The series centers around Goku, an alien from a powerful race called the Saiyans. Throughout the show, Goku strives to become stronger, build relationships, and enjoy life. He’s a fun-loving and carefree character, but also incredibly powerful.
Throughout the Dragon Ball series, Goku steadily grows stronger while venturing into increasingly unfamiliar territory. Dragon Ball Z expands on this, with Goku and his friends uniting to defend their world from powerful threats. Then, Dragon Ball Super introduces a much larger scope – multiple universes – and with it, Super Shenron, a being of immense power that exists across countless galaxies.
I admit, when I first saw Shenron’s size, it felt almost silly! Logically, a dragon that big doesn’t really track. But honestly, that immense scale is exactly what makes him so impressive – something the dragons in Game of Thrones, for all their detail, just never quite achieved for me as a viewer. It truly feels like a spectacle.
Lord Of The Rings Also Dwarfs Game Of Thrones’ Dragons
As much as I love Dragon Ball, it’s not the only place with incredible dragons! Compared to those in Game of Thrones, dragons in other fantasy worlds are often on a completely different scale. Take The Lord of the Rings, for example – the dragons in Middle-earth are so massive, they couldn’t possibly perch on just any old tower; we’re talking about creatures that need entire mountainsides to call home!
The dragons in Game of Thrones aren’t as impressive as many other fantasy dragons, which makes sense given the show’s history – it explains that dragons in the realm once dwindled to the size of dogs before dying out. While Daenerys’ dragons are large enough to ride into battle, they’re still only about the size of a big house.
Dragons in fantasy stories have always been incredibly large – some, like Ancalagon in Middle-earth, are even described as being mountain-sized! And in series like Dragon Ball Super, dragons can be unbelievably huge, stretching across entire galaxies. If you’re interested in epic fantasy worlds and powerful dragons, Dragon Ball Super is definitely worth checking out.
