The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales Endings – How to access each ending in the game

Similar to other games made by Team Asano at Square Enix, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales features several different endings players can unlock. This page will guide you through all the possible endings and explain how to get each one.

I’ll do my best to avoid spoilers, but explaining how to get each ending might reveal a few minor details about the game’s story.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales has three different endings. Although players might come up with their own names for each one, I’ll refer to them as the Bad Ending, the Standard Ending, and the True Ending throughout this guide.

You’ll unlock an achievement and a special stamp on your save file for each of the game’s endings. No matter what platform you’re playing on—PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox, or Switch—experiencing all the endings is worthwhile, and you’ll also receive unique artwork for each one.

It’s important to remember that the Bad and Standard Endings aren’t required to complete the game – you can actually miss them! If you focus too much on unlocking the True Ending right away, you won’t be able to go back and get the other two. So, I recommend getting the Bad and Standard Endings as soon as they become available.

Finally, remember that you can always create a Clear Save after reaching any ending and continue playing. This lets you go back and find anything you might have missed, like Life Shards, Cats, or Manuscripts. Just keep in mind that the Bad Ending and Standard Ending can be locked if certain conditions aren’t met.

All these endings are also outlined in our Adventures of Elliot 100% walkthrough.

The Bad Ending: As Long as Any Hope Remains

Finishing this part of the game unlocks the achievement “As Long as Any Hope Remains.” You’ll also receive a bronze stamp on your saved game file, so you can think of this as the Bronze Ending.

You can unlock the Bad Ending after completing the Dragonpillar event (during the Age of Budding). Specifically, you need to have followed Calotesia’s guidance to obtain the Tracing Needle in the Age of Reconstruction and then return to Huther. It’s actually quite easy to reach this ending – just following the game’s hints will lead you there.

You’ll find the Northern Tower in the Age of Safekeeping. Inside, you’ll battle a boss called ‘The Sorcerer’. While beating him triggers an ending, it’s not the true ending – you’ll earn an achievement and a stamp, then be able to reload your game and continue playing.

The Standard Ending: The Peace in Which We Walk

Finishing this part of the game unlocks the achievement “The Peace in Which We Walk.” You’ll also receive a silver mark on your saved game file, so it’s sometimes called the Silver Ending.

To get the Standard Ending, start by finding the Leytstaff sword in the Water Ruins during the Age of Reconstruction. Then, go back to Littlehope, Weyzn, and Hitoyori – this will trigger additional scenes related to the Ages of Reconstruction, Magic, and Safekeeping.

Your main task is to locate the three sages. Finding them will unlock Elliot’s most powerful charge attack using the Leytstaff sword. A complete guide is available for detailed instructions, but here’s a quick overview of what you need to do:

  • Age of Budding
    • You’ll see some scenes regarding Lyudmila and Hitoyori village. After, you’ll be directed to Grandtree for the first sage.
  • Age of Reconstruction
    • Here, you’ll have to do a lengthy endurance battle with Heurich. After, you’ll be directed to Mount Phoenix for the second sage.
  • Age of Magic
    • Enter Weyzn, and you’ll have to do three event battles. After, you’ll finally get access to Geared Ruins dungeon in this age for the third sage. Here, you’ll gain the “Nomutota” Mystic Seal super charge attack for the Leytstaff Sword.

After completing everything, go back to Northern Tower (Age of Safekeeping) and defeat the boss using the Mystic Seal attack.

The True Ending: At the Thousand-Year Journey’s End

Finishing this part of the game unlocks the achievement called “At the Thousand-Year Journey’s End.” It will also add a golden mark to your saved game – you could think of it as the ‘Gold Ending’.

Getting the true ending takes significantly more effort than the other endings. After you learn the Mystic Seal attack, you’ll need to revisit all three past time periods to unlock additional scenes. We have a complete walkthrough with detailed instructions for this ending, but here are the key steps to help guide you.

  • Age of Budding
    • Head to Lyudmila’s house, and you’ll be tasked to go to Dragonpillar for a scene. You’ll then be sent to Grandtree for a boss fight. Simply follow the events after this, which leads to dramatic scenes in Hitoyori.
  • Age of Magic
    • Head to Mao’s house to get Mao’s Pendant, then head to Northern Tower in this age. After events at the tower, head to Southern Caves – Western Edge guidepost, which leads to an escort event. After this, return to the Northern Tower basement for more dramatic scenes.
  • Age of Reconstruction
    • Here, head to Mao’s house for scenes. Proceed with the events with the doctor, grabbing the medicine he requests. Eventually, you’ll be tasked with heading to Huther.
  • Age of Safekeeping
    • You’ll see a scene at the city entrance, in the throne room, and then at the Eldertree. After this, be sure to grab the Amber Pendant from Princess Heuria’s room.

To get this particular ending, you’ll need to collect cats throughout the game. While the exact number needed isn’t clear, it’s best to aim for at least 35, and ideally all 50, to unlock all of Elliot’s cat collection rewards.

Okay, so if you want to unlock the real ending, here’s what I figured out. Once you snag the Amber Pendant, make sure it’s equipped – put it in one of your accessory slots. Then, head back to that boss at the bottom of the Northern Tower, the one from the Age of Safekeeping. But don’t attack! Instead of beating him, you need to pull off three perfect guards in a row. That’s the key!

There’s still a little gameplay after the main story ends, before the closing credits fully roll. If you’d like detailed instructions, check out our complete walkthrough.
