For the past four years, running from October 1st to 4th in Madrid, Spain, the annual Iberseries & Platino Industria convention has become a crucial event for professionals working within the Ibero-American audiovisual sector.
Samuel Castro, one of the co-directors of Iberseries, who focuses on the television sector, while his counterpart Juan Alía manages films, expressed their hope. They aim to keep or even exceed the 2,500 accredited attendees from last year’s event. Moreover, they strive not only for an increase in the number of accredited participants but also in the caliber of professionals participating in Iberseries & Platino Industria. Their ambition is to make this event a preferred venue for executives with decision-making authority, where they can conduct business, present projects, and discuss strategic approaches related to Spanish-language audiovisual content.
Preliminary data indicates that a significant number of professionals have registered for Iberseries so far, with many more accreditations to follow. As it stands, 647 professionals from Spain, 121 from Mexico, 96 from Colombia, and 83 from the USA have been accredited, while 42 are from Chile. In terms of European countries, Portugal, France, and Italy show a strong presence, but Spain appears to be leading in numbers.
Prominent companies based in Spain and Latin America, such as Disney+ for both regions, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, Movistar Plus+, NBC Universal, RTVE (Spanish Radio Television), Atresplayer, and Caracol, are scheduled to take part in the event’s agenda, with Disney+ leading the way.
Participating in the Impromptu Pitch Meetings are various entities such as Warner Bros., Telemundo Studios, Sony, Paramount, Gaumont, Dopamine, and Secuoya Studios, along with several others.

There appears to be a stronger emphasis on stories set within specific cultural backgrounds yet have themes relatable worldwide: “Narratives deeply grounded in unique cultural contexts but carrying universal messages that echo globally are gaining traction. Alongside auteur films, there’s been an increasing fascination with genres such as suspense, terror, and humor, each tailored to local tastes,” he explained to EbMaster, further mentioning the rising prominence of female and diverse perspectives.
Alia additionally emphasized a heightened dedication towards social, political, and ecological topics, with an increasing number of initiatives tackling modern societal challenges like inequality, mass movement, and dishonesty. Furthermore, she expressed a growing curiosity about delving into and uncovering the impact of past events on today’s world.
He’s additionally noticed the development of innovative funding methods, such as crowdfunding and private investments, which serve to bolster public finances according to his statement.
However, several hurdles persist, such as digital piracy, ensuring eco-friendliness in film production, dealing with content overload, and contending against popular short-form entertainment platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and others.
