As a seasoned World of Warcraft gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, this latest collaboration between WoW and Waze has me positively thrilled! Growing up, I remember listening to Chris Metzen’s voice acting as Thrall on countless occasions, and now he’s guiding me through my daily commute? It’s like an epic quest right here in the real world!
For World of Warcraft’s 20th anniversary, they’re teaming up with Waze, a GPS navigation app owned by Google. This means players can have Thrall, the ex-leader of the Horde, guide them on their journey, while also enjoying visual representations for both the Alliance and the Horde during the trip.
As a gamer, it’s awesome to have Thrall, the legendary Orc leader, guiding me through his voice navigation. His voice, provided by none other than Chris Metzen, the Warcraft executive creative director, brings an authenticity that’s hard to beat. Hearing him describe making a U-turn as “a sly tactic to trick anyone chasing us” or remind me that being stuck in traffic isn’t the end of the world, just adds another layer of immersion to my gaming experience.
Users can initiate Thrall in Waze by tapping the “Choose an Assistant” button on the primary menu, then selecting the “Journey with World of Warcraft” option. This allows them to enable Thrall’s voice for navigation instructions.
Beyond the choices of Horde or Alliance emblems, users also have the option to change their car symbol into a fiery red drake, a creature that World of Warcraft (WoW) enthusiasts are likely well-acquainted with.
Waze has previously collaborated on various projects. For instance, they worked together with Halo Infinite for its release, incorporating the voice of Master Chief or Brute Chieftain Escharum. Similarly, they’ve partnered with Batman and renowned figures like Arnold Schwarzenegger in other ventures.
Blizzard is marking World of Warcraft’s 20th anniversary by organizing an impressive in-game event scheduled for later this year, allowing players to gather some of the game’s most recognized armor sets. Furthermore, other Blizzard games such as Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 are joining the celebration by offering World of Warcraft-themed cosmetics.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that in my recent review of TopMob’s World of Warcraft: The War Within, I praised the latest expansion for Blizzard’s MMORPG as “WoW at its most inviting.” This is due to exciting new features such as the account-wide Warband system and engaging endgame solo content known as Delves.
