Death Stranding 2's Latest Footage Debuts New Characters And A Talking Doll

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt and an ardent fan of Hideo Kojima’s enigmatic masterpieces, I can confidently say that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is shaping up to be a mind-bending, heart-wrenching, and visually stunning sequel. The introduction of new characters like Dollman, Tarman, Rainy, Tomorrow, and Heartman promises a rich narrative tapestry filled with intrigue, mystery, and emotional depth.

In the original Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima incorporated some unusual elements, but it seems he’s pushing boundaries even more with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. During the Tokyo Game Show, Kojima Productions unveiled an extended sneak peek of Death Stranding 2, showcasing new characters, a photograph mode, and a lively puppet named Dollman, who carries a melodious tune within him.

Initially, character Norman Reedus as Sam Porter Bridges meets up with Lea Seydoux’s character, Fragile. Fragile presents him to Tarman, who is the submarine captain, voiced by Marty Rhone and resembling George Miller. Additionally, Dollman, voiced by Jonathan Roumie and visually inspired by Fatih Akin, also greets Sam. He hints that he used to be a human medium before being transformed into his current form.

Subsequently, Sam meets a woman named Rainy (Shioli Kutsuna), who is expecting a child, as well as a stranger called Tomorrow (Elle Fanning). Interestingly, Tomorrow begins to croon a melody for Rainy’s unborn baby. At this moment, Dollman decides to chime in with his own harmonies, even though he’s dangling from Sam’s belt. This scene suggests that Dollman and Sam might be embarking on a journey together at some point.

From there, Sam and Dollman join forces with Heartman (a character resembling Nicolas Winding Refn, voiced by Darren Jacobs), a man who has the uncanny ability to stop his own heart whenever he desires. Additionally, his exosuit enables him to sleep in any upright posture of his choosing. To finish off the clip, Fragile, Tomorrow, and Rainy playfully experiment with the camera mode, producing Polaroid-style images that appear strikingly lifelike compared to other elements.

Death Stranding 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, but it will hit PlayStation 5 in 2025.
