I knew the ending of the previous film and the events in ‘The Penguin’ series created a lot of possibilities for exploration. I particularly wanted to dig deeper into Bruce Wayne’s character, as the first story focused primarily on Batman.

Matt Reeves shared that if they were able to make a third film—which isn’t confirmed—he always envisioned it focusing on the main character’s personal journey. Once the origin story is covered—something they touched on but didn’t fully explore—the focus would shift to the villains and how they impact the main character’s development. He wanted to ensure the main character remained central to the narrative, and that guided their choice of villain. They specifically looked for a villain whose story would connect to the character’s past and life. Reeves wouldn’t reveal who they chose, but he expressed excitement about it, noting that it’s a unique approach not often seen in movies.

While the Court of Owls wouldn’t have the same personal connection for Bruce Wayne as the villain Hush, they would delve into the deep roots of Gotham’s most influential families. Interestingly, there’s a way for director Matt Reeves to weave both Hush and the Court of Owls into a single movie naturally.

Besides being a friend of Bruce Wayne, Hush is actually an Elliot – a member of one of Gotham City’s most influential families. This connection makes it likely he’s involved with the Court of Owls in the next movie, and it makes a lot of sense.
