After Watching The First Two Episodes Of Chad Powers, I Think There’s One Character Who Needs To Know His True Identity

Be warned: the following contains spoilers for the first two episodes of *Chad Powers*. If you haven’t seen them yet, you can watch the show with a Hulu subscription. New episodes are released every Tuesday.

Currently, only Danny, the school mascot (played by Frankie A. Rodriguez), knows the truth: Glen Powell’s character is actually former football player Russ Holliday. But for the show to work, I believe Ricky (Perry Mattfeld) needs to find out Russ isn’t who he pretends to be – that is, ‘Chad Powers.’

It’s definitely entertaining to see Russ pretending to be someone else – Chad – and fooling the whole team. Powell’s disguise and silly voice are hilarious. But I’m not sure if this storyline will hold up for an entire season.

Ultimately, I’m hoping Ricky, the assistant coach, figures things out, and there are a couple of key reasons why.

Ricky Knowing Chad’s True Identity Puts Her In A Tough But Entertaining Place

Ricky has the most at stake here. She’s working hard to establish herself on the team, overcome the perception that she only got her position because of family connections, and prove she’s a capable coach. Finding out who Chad really is could either significantly help or hurt all of those efforts.

People are already drawing comparisons between Glen Powell’s character, Chad Powers, and Ted Lasso. A Disney executive gave a very enthusiastic ten-word response to the show’s popularity.

I think she and Chad will likely join forces, as they both need to prove themselves. Hopefully, they can support each other in doing so. But that probably won’t happen unless she finds out he’s really Russ.

Okay, so here’s the deal: if she finds out the truth, it could actually be a good thing. She could help Russ clean up his act and even become a better player, making them both look fantastic… at least temporarily. Because, and this is a big ‘because,’ once everyone discovers who Chad *really* is, things will get messy. It’s a total gamble – huge potential payoff, but equally huge risk. I’m on the edge of my seat!

If word gets out that Ricky is aware of Chad’s secret, it would create a difficult situation for both of them, and make for compelling television – particularly if my other idea works out.

If Chad And Ricky Are Going To Get Closer, I Need Her To Know He’s Really Russ

Based on reviews, interviews, and the overall feeling surrounding the show, it appears a romantic connection is developing between Ricky and Chad. Perry Mattfeld hinted in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Ricky needs to be both a friend and a potential love interest, suggesting that her bond with Chad will likely become a significant friendship, and possibly something more.

For this to actually work, though, I do think Ricky needs to know that he’s not really Chad Powers.

As a fan of shows like *Matlock* where characters have hidden identities, I’m finding *Chad Powers* equally stressful to watch. I keep worrying that the main characters are forming connections that will be ruined once their secrets come out. It’s the same anxiety I feel watching shows with big reveals!

I understand the drama is part of what makes the story interesting. But it’s upsetting to watch the relationships I care about fall apart because of this big secret. If Ricky and Chad/Russ are going to have a real connection – whether it’s a romance or just a friendship – they need to be honest with each other, and that means she needs to find out what he’s hiding.

It’s crucial for Ricky to discover that Chad is really Russ. This reveal would create more drama and give their relationship a realistic chance at becoming healthy and lasting.

You can watch the popular series *Chad Powers* on Hulu to see how Chad’s story unfolds and if anyone discovers his real identity.
