Korean YouTuber targeted by racist gesture responds as FIFA invites her to Mexico match

Korean YouTuber Yoon Soo-jin spoke out after experiencing a racist act at the World Cup. FIFA has since invited her to attend South Korea’s upcoming game against Mexico.

Yoon, who uses the online name Ino Cat, became popular on social media after posting a video of South Korea’s first game of the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Czechia. The match was played in Guadalajara, Mexico.

In the video, the woman was recording herself at the game when a man behind her, who was wearing a Mexico jersey, pulled at the sides of his eyes and looked at the camera.

The gesture caused a strong negative reaction online, with many people criticizing it as racist towards Asian individuals. South Korea then won the game against Czechia with a final score of 2-1.

FIFA announced the game will be held on the International Day Against Hate Speech, and President Yoon will participate to promote respect and inclusion.

Korean YouTuber says “there are a lot more good people” after racist gesture

After receiving criticism, Yoon posted a message expressing her gratitude for the support she received and stated that despite everything, she still cherished her first experience in Mexico.

The popular YouTuber, who has over 6.6 million subscribers, shared their initial impressions of Mexico after a long 16-hour flight. They described experiencing the heat and energy of the World Cup for the first time as an unforgettable moment.

You know, seeing everything unfold has really reminded me that even though there are some tough people out there, there are so many more good ones. I’m honestly thrilled we get one more match to watch live next week – Korea versus Mexico is going to be amazing! I’m planning on enjoying every single second and cheering my heart out for Korea until I lose my voice. Let’s go Korea!

Fans in Mexico quickly took to social media to apologize for the incident and offer their support. News outlets in the country emphasized that the individual’s behavior didn’t reflect the views of Mexican fans as a whole.

So, I found out who that guy in the video was! Apparently, it’s Ulises Fernando Bernal Miramontes – he’s actually the president of a group for engineers specializing in mapping and stuff back in Jalisco, Mexico. Korean and Mexican news sites were all over the story.

He publicly apologized and stepped down from his position to protect his investors. He stated, “I am truly sorry to everyone involved, including the YouTuber. I sincerely regret what I did and fully accept my responsibility for it.”

FIFA also confirmed the individual’s World Cup ticketing account had been blocked.
