Spider-Man 5 Gets Candid Update From Brand New Day Director

As a longtime follower of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’m thrilled to see a truly iconic hero back in action after what felt like forever! It’s great to have them return to the big screen.

After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man hasn’t appeared in Marvel Cinematic Universe films for almost five years. Tom Holland is returning as Peter Parker this summer, but fans are curious about what will happen with his character after 2026.

Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, recently spoke with the Crew Call podcast about the future of the series. When asked if they were already planning a fifth Spider-Man movie or if the upcoming 2026 film would be the last, he offered a playful response: “Treat this movie as though it’s the final Spider-Man story.”

Cretton’s comments follow a recent conversation with Holland about his future as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In May, Holland expressed his desire to help introduce the next iteration of the character – whether it’s Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman, or someone else. He said he’d be happy to pass the torch and play a role similar to Robert Downey Jr.’s mentorship, allowing him to retire from the role gracefully.

Currently, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios haven’t officially announced a fifth Spider-Man movie. Marvel is primarily focused on completing the remaining films and shows in Phase 6, as their current storyline, the Multiverse Saga, is scheduled to end in December 2027 with Avengers: Secret Wars.

It’s still unknown if Peter Parker will appear in the final phase of Marvel movies, or even in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday. With filming for the 2027 movie starting this summer, Marvel Studios might soon share more information about Tom Holland potentially returning after Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Even if Spider-Man isn’t included in future Avengers films, it’s very probable that Brand New Day won’t be his last movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Considering how incredibly popular Spider-Man is globally and how much money the franchise makes, another continuation seems almost certain.

It’s still uncertain if a potential Spider-Man 5 would include characters like Miles Morales. However, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe heading towards a fresh start after Avengers: Secret Wars, there will be more chances to explore new storylines and introduce different heroes.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released in theaters on July 31.
