As a cinephile who has witnessed the evolution of action cinema over the past few decades, I must admit that the announcement of “From the World of John Wick: Ballerina” stirred a mix of curiosity and skepticism within me. The series, under the masterful direction of Chad Stahelski, has become a benchmark in modern action films, and expanding its universe is a bold move. However, the trailer for “Ballerina” has left me with a sense of anticipation.
There’s been limited information available regarding the John Wick films, but recently news broke about a new movie set to expand the John Wick universe titled “Ballerina,” or more accurately, “From the World of John Wick: Ballerina.” Initially, there was much apprehension surrounding this film. However, the release of the first trailer has eased many doubts as it appears very much like a typical John Wick movie. Furthermore, the presence of familiar faces such as Ian McShane, Lance Reddick (in his last screen role), Anjelica Huston, and Keanu Reeves himself further solidifies this impression.
In the John Wick series, director Chad Stahelski passes control to Len Wiseman (known for the Underworld films). The narrative unfolds between John Wick Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, featuring Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, a former ballet dancer turned assassin. Driven by vengeance for her father’s death, she embarks on an action-packed journey that mirrors the John Wick format. This is certainly a positive development!
