As a cinephile with a penchant for the illustrious and the iconic, I couldn’t be more thrilled about Meryl Streep’s potential return to our screens in “The Corrections.” Her versatility and exceptional talent have graced us on both the big and small screen, and this project promises yet another opportunity to witness her brilliance.
It’s likely that Meryl Streep will take on a significant television part in the near future, as she has been confirmed to star in a TV series based on the book “The Corrections” by Jonathan Franzen.
Currently, no streaming service or broadcast network is associated with this project, but you can expect to see it launched in the market shortly. Jonathan Franzen is adapting the novel for the screen and will assume the role of executive producer. Mark Roybal from wiip will join him as an executive producer. CBS Studios is the driving force behind this project. Earlier, it was under Paramount Television Studios until their closure in August, with Nicole Clemens from PTVS serving as executive producer at that time.
Reps for CBS Studios declined to comment.
First released in 2001, ‘The Corrections’ follows the narrative of an elderly Midwest couple as they strive to gather their three grown-up children for a festive family Christmas gathering, driven by the father’s deteriorating health.
Previously, efforts have been made to transform “The Corrections” into a movie, but this never came to fruition. Later, HBO initiated a pilot based on the novel in 2011, with Chris Cooper, Dianne Wiest, and Ewan McGregor set to star. However, it was revealed in 2012 that this pilot was not being developed into a series.
Meryl Streep’s latest venture is another addition to her expanding list of TV roles. Most recently, she graced Seasons 3 and 4 of the popular Hulu comedy “Only Murders in the Building,” a performance that landed her both a Golden Globe and Emmy nomination. She has also been seen in HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” another role that garnered her recognition with Golden Globe and Emmy nods. Often hailed as one of the greatest actresses ever, Streep holds the record for the most Academy Award nominations at 21, making her the most-nominated actor in history. Her victories came from the films “Kramer vs. Kramer,” “Sophie’s Choice,” and “The Iron Lady.

In addition to “The Corrections”, Franzens other novels include “Crossroads”, “Purity”, “Freedom”, “Strong Motion”, and “The Twenty–Seventh City”. Besides these, he has authored several collections of essays and a memoir titled “The Discomfort Zone”. With “The Corrections”, he is venturing into television writing for the first time.
