Kate Winslet expressed that not winning multiple Oscars throughout her career didn’t put additional stress on her to give an outstanding performance. For a significant part of her career, Winslet was often the bridesmaid rather than the bride at the Academy Awards, receiving five Oscar nominations over a decade without taking home the award. However, she won the Best Actress statue for “The Reader” in 2009, but even then, she didn’t feel any increased pressure.
During a chat on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, the interviewer Josh Horowitz inquired if Winslet had ever experienced the urge to clinch an Oscar following numerous nominations without winning. In her own words, she stated: “I’ve been nominated several times, but I’ve never taken home the award.
Absolutely, it’s not a burden by any means,” Winslet replied. “I’m still in awe that I get to do this work, have this career, meet incredible individuals, and keep learning.
Winslet emphasized that the constant pressure she experiences in her career comes from the need to continually progress, and working on her newest project, “Lee,” provided a particularly satisfying sense of achievement due to this requirement.
She exclaimed, ‘I’m truly creating something,’ she said. ‘I’m financing projects and ensuring they continue. What I was doing before was merely imaginative, but it too counts as creation. It’s about bringing people together, uniting them on a journey.’
In 1996, Kate Winslet received her first Oscar nomination for her role as a supporting actress in “Sense and Sensibility.” Over the next ten years, she garnered four more nominations for her performances in “Titanic,” “Iris,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” and “Little Children.” Following her Oscar win in 2009, Winslet was nominated again in 2015 for her role in “Steve Jobs.
The actress shared with WSJ Magazine that her Best Actress Oscar statue is located in her bathroom. She explained humorously, “The idea is for everyone to pick it up and say something like, ‘I’d like to thank my son and my dad,’ and you can usually tell when someone has because they take a moment longer after flushing. They emerge with a touch of pink cheeks. It’s quite amusing.
