Every Godzilla Monster, Ranked from Weakest to Strongest

The Godzilla franchise began with the original Japanese film released in 1954 by Toho. Since then, Godzilla and the series it launched have captured the imaginations of audiences in Japan and around the world. Later Godzilla films introduced new monsters to challenge and fight against him.

The Godzilla movies are famous for their massive monsters, called kaiju – a Japanese word for “strange beasts.” These creatures are incredibly powerful and cause a lot of damage. While some kaiju are truly dangerous rivals for both humanity and Godzilla himself, others are much weaker. These less powerful monsters either help Godzilla show off his strength or act as simple obstacles before a stronger enemy appears.

The Endoswarmers Have Little to no Attack Power on Individual Levels

The Endoswarmers, first seen in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, look like giant insects. While technically classified as Titans, each individual Endoswarmer isn’t very powerful. However, when they gather in large swarms, they can definitely be dangerous—and even deadly—to people.

Viewers were first introduced to the Endoswarmer eggs inside an old building. The eggs began to hatch when Miura, Randa, and Lee tried to collect a sample. Initially, it appeared Keiko Miura was killed by the creatures, but the season one finale revealed that wasn’t what happened. Despite being dangerous, the Endoswarmers are the weakest of all the Titans and don’t pose a significant threat to the larger ones.

Baragon Has a Few Strengths, but He’s Overall Ineffective

Baragon is a prehistoric reptile and one of the many monsters that have battled Godzilla, though he was quickly overcome. He has the unique ability to shoot a beam of intense heat or fire, which he can use to help him burrow underground or as a direct attack.

Okay, so Baragon… he’s one of those older Toho monsters, kinda looks like a dinosaur. He’s not a pushover, he can definitely hold his own in a fight. I remember being surprised when I first saw him actually jump at Godzilla and try to bite him! It was a cool moment, but honestly, compared to what other monsters have done to Godzilla over the years, it just doesn’t quite stack up. That’s probably why we haven’t seen him get a reboot in the Monsterverse yet, sadly.

Jet Jaguar Can Fly Fast and Change Size

Jet Jaguar is a hero modeled after Super Sentai characters, first appearing in the movie Godzilla vs. Megalon. He was built by a family of scientists and has the ability to grow or shrink in size as needed. Initially, he tries to fight Megalon, but the combined power of Megalon and Gygas could be a difficult challenge for the robot.

Godzilla eventually steps in, leading to one of the silliest final attacks in the whole series. Even though Jet Jaguar has a heroic theme song, he’s not a very strong fighter. He showed up again in a Netflix anime, but Godzilla easily defeated him.

Ebirah Doesn’t Have Many Options for Close-Quarters Combat

Ebirah is considered one of Godzilla’s easiest opponents. This giant, lobster-like creature doesn’t have the strength or abilities to truly challenge the King of Monsters. Its only weapons are a pair of claws of different sizes, which limit its fighting options in close combat.

Ebirah’s weakness is clear when he fights Godzilla, who easily tears off his arms. While Ebirah is a strong swimmer and tried to defeat Godzilla by pulling him underwater, it wasn’t enough. Because Godzilla can also fight well in the water, Ebirah couldn’t use his swimming skills effectively and lost decisively.

Minilla Is Nowhere Near as Powerful as his Father

Minilla, often called Godzilla Jr., is Godzilla’s adopted son and first appeared in the 1967 film Son of Godzilla. Like Godzilla, he’s a member of the same species but is much younger. He also has some unique abilities his father doesn’t, such as being able to shrink down to human size.

Minilla is still just a young monster, and isn’t nearly as strong as Godzilla. Many fans actually make fun of him, especially because he often gets pushed around by other creatures like Gabara. Although he could become a powerful kaiju one day, right now he doesn’t really stand a chance in a fight.

Behemoth Wasn’t Much of a Fighter, Despite His Size

Behemoth is a giant, woolly mammoth-like Titan featured in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. This massive creature, covered in fur and sporting large, curved tusks, towers hundreds of feet tall. Although slow-moving, each step it takes creates a small earthquake.

Despite being incredibly intimidating in size, Behemoth isn’t the most threatening Titan in the Monsterverse. His massive size actually makes him slow, which puts him at a disadvantage in battles. He hasn’t been featured in any major fights, leaving fans curious about his abilities. Currently, his most notable action has been showing loyalty to Godzilla.

Kamacuras Lack the Abilities to Pose a Real Challenge

Kamacuras aren’t single creatures, but a swarm of insect-like monsters. Despite being numerous, they’re surprisingly weak – and for good reason. Godzilla easily defeats them with his atomic breath, making the fight feel like an overreaction, similar to using a powerful flamethrower to deal with a few mosquitoes.

Kamacuras pose a threat to people and smaller monsters like Minilla, Godzilla’s son, but they aren’t powerful enough to harm the biggest creatures, including Godzilla himself. Even if they attack in large groups, they’re simply outmatched by Godzilla and many other monsters in both the original Toho films and the Monsterverse.

The Colossal Methusaleh Understands His Limits

Methuselah is a massive creature that appears briefly in the movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Standing over 300 feet tall, it’s made of a bizarre combination of rock, moss, and flesh – almost like a living mountain. At the end of the film, Methuselah submits to Godzilla, acknowledging him as the new leader of the Titans.

Despite his immense size and power, Methuselah is actually a relatively minor Titan compared to others in the Monsterverse. While impressive to look at, he isn’t as skilled in battle as creatures like Godzilla and King Kong. He understands his limitations and avoids challenging Godzilla for dominance, choosing to survive instead. Other sources show that Methuselah and other Titans like him entered a dormant state after the events of King of the Monsters, waiting for Godzilla to awaken them when needed.

The Hawk Is an Often-Forgotten Monsterverse Titan

The animated series Skull Island delves deeper into the diverse creatures inhabiting the enigmatic island. Featured among them is a massive red hawk that soars through the air, hunting for food – often targeting smaller, unsuspecting monsters who aren’t aware of the threat from above.

The Hawk is a strong helper to Kong, assisting him in battles against other giant creatures on Skull Island. It plays a key role in Kong’s fight with the Kraken, a dangerous sea monster. However, the Hawk wouldn’t be able to win in a direct fight against Kong. After the events on Skull Island, the Hawk disappeared and hasn’t been seen since.

Gabara Is Swiftly and Completely Vanquished by Godzilla

Gabara first appeared in the 1969 film All Monsters Attack, originating from the dreams of a character named Ichiro Miki. This small monster embodies Ichiro’s bully, who shares the same name. In a rather comical way, the creature harasses Godzilla’s young son, Minilla, mirroring Ichiro’s own experience of being picked on due to his size and gentle nature.

Honestly, it was amazing to watch Minilla finally find his courage with Ichiro’s help! He actually stood up to that big bully, Gabara. But messing with Minilla meant messing with Godzilla, and Gabara quickly learned that was a huge mistake. Godzilla totally laid the smack down on him – it was fast and decisive. You could really feel the power!
