Pokemon announces 30th anniversary set with new card rarity for September 2026

To mark 30 years of Pokémon, The Pokémon Company has announced a special new expansion for the Trading Card Game.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game’s 30th Celebration set will be released globally on September 16, 2026 – a first for the game. All cards in the set will be foil, and it will introduce a new type of card called Futuristic Rare.

The announcement trailer showed off two cards featuring the original Legendary Pokémon, Mew and Mewtwo.

30th anniversary going big on Pikachu cards

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the Pokémon Trading Card Game is releasing a large collection featuring Pikachu. The Pokémon Company International has announced that 30 different versions of Pikachu will be available in card packs.

So far, the revealed cards feature reprints of popular favorites, such as the classic Base Set Charizard, and cards from different eras of the trading card game, including team-up cards from the Sun & Moon series.

Like many recent Pokémon sets, this one includes special, full-art rare cards. So far, we’ve seen versions featuring Lapras, Hisuian Zorua, Drifloon, and Lycanroc.

Popular Pokémon like Umbreon and Espeon are back in this set! Just like the cards released for the 25th anniversary, these cards all have a special logo marking 30 years of Pokémon.

Okay, so right now, we don’t know exactly how many cards are going to be in the 30th Anniversary set. Plus, The Pokémon Company International hasn’t said anything about when we’ll be able to pre-order it yet, which is kinda frustrating as a collector!

With so many people wanting Pokémon cards and scalpers continuing to be a problem, it will probably be very difficult to find the 30th Anniversary packs at normal store prices. This is unless The Pokémon Company can significantly increase production beyond current levels.
