Netflix’s popular fantasy series boasts a truly impressive cast, and the next season promises even more big names. Since starting to create its own shows, Netflix has drawn a remarkable group of talented actors – including Hollywood stars like Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Salma Hayek, as well as beloved TV actors like Gillian Anderson and Jason Bateman. The most memorable casts, however, aren’t just made up of famous faces; they also include exciting new performers and rising stars, creating dynamic and captivating groups.
While shows like Stranger Things and Bridgerton have done well with casting, the strongest ensemble Netflix has put together is likely in its biggest hits – especially Wednesday. In this series, Jenna Ortega plays Wednesday Addams, a serious and determined investigator who tackles the most dangerous and supernatural mysteries at Nevermore Academy. Since the first season of Wednesday premiered, Jenna Ortega has become a major cultural figure, and the show itself has broken records as Netflix’s most-watched series ever (according to Tudum).
Emma Meyers, who plays the cheerful werewolf Enid on Wednesday, is quickly becoming a star, landing a leading role in the Netflix and BBC adaptation of the popular young adult mystery, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. Even with just Jenna Ortega and Emma Meyers as central characters, Wednesday probably would have been a success. However, the show’s incredibly talented supporting cast definitely played a huge role in making it the worldwide hit that it is.
Catherine Zeta-Jones delivers a captivating performance as Morticia Addams, bringing a sense of royalty and mystery to the role. Luis Guzmán is perfectly cast as the warm and endearing Gomez Addams. Gwendoline Christie, known from Game of Thrones, is compelling as the former headmistress of Nevermore, Larissa Weems. Fred Armisen is wonderfully unsettling yet kind as Uncle Fester, and Victor Dorobantu makes Thing, Wednesday’s helpful companion, a joy to watch.
The show also features a fantastic cast of well-known actors, including Emmy-winner Steve Buscemi, Christina Ricci (famous for playing Wednesday Addams), Billie Piper from Doctor Who, British comedy star Joanna Lumley, Christopher Lloyd of Back to the Future, Thandiwe Newton (known from Mission: Impossible and Solo: A Star Wars Story), and even pop star Lady Gaga. Importantly, the show’s younger actors – Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin, Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay, Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Ottinger, and Evie Templeton as Agnes Demille – are just as captivating on screen as these established veterans.
What truly makes Wednesday work is how committed every actor is to its unique blend of dark, spooky, mysterious, and detective-like stories. The show clearly has a very talented and well-known cast, which speaks volumes about how strong the idea is, how well it’s made, and how much people still love the Addams Family.
Wednesday Season 3 Will Include Even More A-List Talent
It’s no surprise that season 3 of Wednesday will include some well-known actors. As the show expands beyond Nevermore Academy – with Wednesday even taking a trip to Paris – director Tim Burton is bringing back some familiar faces. This includes Winona Ryder, known for her roles in Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and Stranger Things. Ryder will play a character named Tabitha, and she’s a natural fit for the show’s quirky style – fans might even imagine her as a previously unknown member of the Addams family. Her on-screen connection with Jenna Ortega in the recent Beetlejuice film was fantastic.
Eva Green, known for her captivating performances in shows like Penny Dreadful and films like Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, joins the cast as Aunt Ophelia, Morticia’s long-lost sister. She’s sure to be a formidable presence, creating exciting conflict with both Catherine Zeta-Jones and Jenna Ortega. In fact, she seems perfectly suited for the part, especially considering the character’s mysterious background – the casting couldn’t be better.
Season 3 of Wednesday is adding some fantastic new actors, including James Lance from Ted Lasso, Chris Sarandon (known for The Princess Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas), and Lena Headey, who famously played Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones. Headey’s compelling performance as a villain makes her a great addition, and it will be interesting to see what kind of character she plays. While it would be fun to see her as part of the Addams or Frump family, she’s sure to be amazing in any role. The show could definitely benefit from a strong new antagonist, or it would be intriguing to see her character connected to Enid’s werewolf abilities.
Now that Wednesday’s story is expanding beyond high school, it makes sense that the show will introduce new characters. With a vast and mysterious world ahead, Wednesday is sure to encounter many intriguing and dangerous people. These new additions, featuring stars like Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers, promise to bring a vibrant and exciting energy to Netflix’s popular fantasy series.
