Prison Break’s Forgotten Spinoff Starts Streaming for Free in June

A new version of the show is being created for Hulu, but we don’t know yet when it will be released. While fans wait, they can watch a related series for free on another streaming service.

Tubi is adding both seasons of Breakout Kings to its streaming library on June 1st. The show, which originally ran for two seasons on A&E from 2011-2012, was created by Nick Santora and Matt Olmstead – the team behind Prison Break. Notably, Robert Knepper made a guest appearance in Breakout Kings, returning as his Prison Break character T-Bag, creating a connection between the two series and suggesting they exist in the same fictional universe.

Breakout Kings Shares a Universe With Prison Break

Breakout Kings is a show about a special team formed by U.S. Marshals. Their mission? To catch prisoners who have escaped. What makes this team unique is that they enlist the help of former convicts – inmates who are experts at breaking out of prison. In return for assisting with the manhunts, these convicts can potentially earn reduced sentences and a transfer to an easier facility. However, there’s a risk: if anyone on the team tries to escape themselves, they’ll forfeit all benefits and face even tougher consequences.

The series features U.S. Marshals Ray Zancanelli, played by Domenick Lombardozzi (known from Tulsa King), and Charlie DuCamp, played by Laz Alonso (The Boys). Other key characters include Shea Daniels, a former gang member played by Malcolm Goodwin (iZombie), the insightful psychologist Lloyd Lowery, played by Jimmi Simpson (Westworld), the talented bounty hunter Erica Reed, played by Serinda Swan (Reacher), and civilian analyst Julianne Simms, played by Brooke Nevin (Call Me Fitz). The show has also featured guest stars portraying fugitives, including Mark Pellegrino (Supernatural), Lauren Velez (Oz), Omari Hardwick (Army of the Dead), and Jason Behr (Roswell).

Breakout Kings Ended After 2 Seasons

After two seasons, A&E decided to cancel Breakout Kings following the finale of Season 2 in 2012. Although the show had a dedicated fanbase, ratings dropped during its second season, leading to the cancellation. It started strong in 2011 with 2.8 million viewers, but by the end of Season 2, that number had fallen by more than half. The show may have lost viewers when a key character unexpectedly died at the beginning of the season.

Tubi is adding several shows next month, starting with Breakout Kings and Stumptown at the beginning of June. Party of Five will be available starting June 15th, and the reality series FBoy Island and Lovers and Liars will arrive on June 29th.

Breakout Kings starts streaming on Tubi on June 1, 2026.
