As a lifelong movie enthusiast who has witnessed the ebb and flow of Hollywood’s dynamic landscape, I can confidently say that the recent wave of technological advancements is nothing short of revolutionary. Erin Oremland, Shahin Mohammadkhani, and David Garelick have proven to be the trailblazers of this digital transformation, streamlining processes in a way that once seemed impossible.
Due to worldwide pandemics and labor disputes in various industries, Hollywood has gone through an exceptionally frugal period over the last few years. Nevertheless, finance specialists like Erin Oremland, the general manager of AgilLink and the senior VP and head of ecosystem delivery at City National Bank, are striving to develop innovative data and analysis tools aimed at streamlining the entertainment business more effectively than ever before.
As we can observe, businesses are undergoing significant transformations, especially in our field of entertainment at present. There’s a lot of merging, reducing workforce, and readjustments happening. Everyone is seeking efficient ways to achieve more with fewer resources. The optimal strategy for this seems to be utilizing technology effectively.
At the Entertainment & Technology Summit hosted by City National Bank, organized by EbMaster, a discussion took place between Shahin Mohammadkhani, Vice President of Engineering at United Talent Agency, David Garelick, CEO and president of Global Business Management, and moderator Andrew Wallenstein (President and Chief Media Analyst of the EbMaster Intelligence Platform). The topic of their conversation revolved around progressing business objectives in these challenging circumstances.
For approximately two years, Mohammadkhani, in collaboration with UTA, has been working closely with City National. This partnership allowed Mohammadkhani to simplify the banking process for UTA’s clients, fully automating the transfer of funds between studios and artists.
Mohammadkhani stated that we’re easing the burden of payments for clients by allowing business managers to monitor all their transactions. This simplification leads to a decrease in our internal procedures.
In the days before automation, Garelick frequently received hundreds of checks at Global Business Management, Inc., with some taking up to two weeks or even a month to be cashed for their clients. Now, thanks to Oremland and the AgilLink system, these payments are processed immediately.
Garelick stated that the funds are immediately deposited into client accounts, automatically credited to them. This has essentially revolutionized our system. There’s no risk of checks being misplaced or delayed in the postal service, and clients receive their money promptly.
