A popular new Netflix series, featuring a particularly strong cast, has become more popular than a science fiction show praised by Stephen King.
With shows like His & Hers, Bridgerton season 4, The Lincoln Lawyer season 4, The Night Agent season 3, One Piece season 2, Virgin River season 7, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, Beef season 2, Running Point season 2, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, and The Boroughs already announced, 2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for Netflix content.
Netflix’s new season of The Four Seasons is already a popular hit! All eight episodes of season 2 became available on May 28th. The show stars Tina Fey, Will Forte, Colman Domingo, Marco Calvani, Kerri Kenney-Silver, and Erika Henningsen, following their characters as they take vacations throughout the year. A major plot point this season is the death of Steve Carell’s character, Nick, from season 1, which impacts the storyline.
The new series The Four Seasons is currently the most popular show on Netflix in the U.S., taking over from The Boroughs, which author Stephen King praised as “an absolute delight.” Globally, it’s in fourth place, behind The Boroughs, Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine, and Nemesis. However, The Four Seasons is the number one show in 11 countries outside the U.S., including Australia, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Slovenia, and Switzerland.
The show The Four Seasons quickly gained popularity with online streaming, which is a good sign for its future. Thanks to high viewership, season 2 was renewed just two weeks after season 1 premiered. The season 2 finale also hints at a potential third season, particularly due to a surprise guest appearance at the end.
Season 2 is receiving much better reviews than Season 1, earning a “Certified Fresh” score of 90% based on 21 reviews, compared to Season 1’s 78% on the Tomatometer. In a review for ScreenRant, Cher Thompson gave the season 7 out of 10 stars, noting that the show takes the time to explore the relationships between characters, especially after the events of the previous season.
Before it became a Netflix series, The Four Seasons was a 1981 film written, directed, and starring Alan Alda. While he makes a brief appearance in the first two seasons as Anne’s father, he originally played the character of Jack, who is now played by Forte. The film also starred Carol Burnett as Kate, Jack Weston as Danny, Rita Moreno as Claudia, Len Cariou as Nick, Sandy Dennis as Anne, and Bess Armstrong as Ginny.
The TV series The Four Seasons already differed from the movie, but season 2 takes even more liberties with the story. Unlike the film, Nick doesn’t die, and the show delves into the aftermath of Ginny’s pregnancy and shows more of the group’s trips. The personalities and relationships between characters are also changed, particularly for Danny and Claude, and the series gives Anne a more prominent role.
All episodes of The Four Seasons are now streaming on Netflix.
