Netflix has worked for years to become the go-to service for streaming entertainment. This involves significant investment in building a vast library of movies and shows, both by creating its own original content and by acquiring streaming rights to content from other studios. The goal is to attract new customers and keep current ones subscribed.
Netflix aims for its movies to appear in its top 10 rankings, no matter how they’re obtained. Whether Netflix creates films itself, buys them from other studios, picks them up from film festivals, or licenses them, the ultimate goal is chart success. These charts are updated daily and weekly for different countries and globally, and Netflix also keeps track of all-time favorites.
What’s currently the most popular movie on Netflix can change quickly. Sometimes it’s a film Netflix licenses from another studio, and other times it’s an exclusive title. Because people on streaming platforms tend to move on to new things quickly, the top movies are always shifting. However, truly popular titles can stay at the top of the charts for weeks or even months. The recent success of KPop Demon Hunters is a great example of this.
Unlike most streaming services that keep viewing numbers private, Netflix regularly publishes weekly top 10 lists. We’ve analyzed data from these charts, which started in June 2021 and are still updated today, to find the ten movies that have stayed in the top 10 the longest. One movie stands out as the clear record holder!
10. Minions
The lovable, yellow characters from Illumination—best known as the Minions—star in their own movie, Minions. Released in theaters in June 2015, this Despicable Me prequel has remained popular on Netflix, appearing in the top 10 most-watched movies globally for a total of 14 weeks over time.
The song first appeared on the charts in October 2023, staying there for two weeks. It then climbed into the top 10 in early 2024 and remained there for six weeks. It returned to the charts for another two weeks in July 2024, around the time the movie Despicable Me 4 came out in theaters. After a three-week run in early 2025, it last appeared on the charts in mid-April 2025.
9. Red Notice
Before KPop Demon Hunters took the lead, Red Notice was Netflix’s most popular movie ever. It stayed in the top 10 for an impressive 14 weeks, including 12 weeks straight at the beginning. The film, starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot, then made a comeback to the top 10 in February and July of 2022.
Despite being near the bottom of the list, the fact that Red Notice appears at all is significant. It’s the only fully live-action film included. The only other movie that comes close in terms of popularity is Sonic the Hedgehog, which has spent 12 weeks in the top 10 over time, blending live-action with CGI.
8. Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch
The animated movie Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, from Illumination, has consistently been popular on Netflix. Originally released in theaters in 2018, it reliably climbs the streaming charts every Christmas. In fact, it’s been a top 10 movie globally for the past three years, and was even Netflix’s most-watched movie in December 2025.
As a film buff, I’ve been tracking what people are watching, and The Grinch has been surprisingly popular on Netflix! It’s been in the top 10 for a total of 15 weeks now. I first noticed it back in September 2023, but it only stayed there for a couple of weeks. The biggest run for the movie was this year, though – it was a solid five weeks straight, starting at the beginning of December and running right into the new year. It really seems to become a holiday tradition for a lot of families!
7. Shrek
The characters Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, from the popular DreamWorks movie Shrek (released in 2001), are recognized for their enduring appeal. The original Shrek film also remained in the top 10 charts for 15 weeks between 2022 and 2025.
The movie Shrek has consistently remained popular on streaming platforms. From February to April 2022, it was among the most-streamed films for seven out of nine weeks, including a four-week streak. It reappeared in the top rankings in 2024 for three weeks, and again in 2025 with two separate two-week runs. Most recently, Shrek briefly returned to the top 10 in November 2025 for one week.
6. Paw Patrol: The Movie
Originally released on Paramount+, Paw Patrol: The Movie has also become a hit on Netflix. The 2021 film, based on the popular children’s TV series, has been in Netflix’s top 10 worldwide charts for 17 weeks.
Paw Patrol: The Movie stayed in the top 10 for a full four weeks between August and September of 2025. It’s also been on the chart for shorter periods, usually two or three weeks at a time. Most recently, it was in the top 10 for two weeks in early January 2026, which puts it in a tie for 5th place for total time spent in the top 10.
5. Sing
Along with Minions, the animated musical Sing from Illumination has consistently performed well on Netflix for several years. It stayed in the top 10 worldwide for an impressive 17 weeks – longer than its sequel, Sing 2, which was on the chart for 13 weeks.
The movie Sing has consistently been popular with viewers. It was a top 10 hit for seven weeks between September and November 2024, and previously appeared in the charts for four weeks in October 2022 before Sing 2 came out. More recently, it briefly returned to the charts in late June 2025, further increasing its overall performance.
4. Despicable Me 2
While Minions are incredibly popular, the main Despicable Me movies are even more successful on Netflix. Despicable Me 2 is the most popular film in the series on the platform, currently ranking fourth after spending an impressive 19 weeks in the top 10.
The biggest standout is Despicable Me 2, which stayed in the top 10 for six weeks at the beginning of 2022. It hasn’t had a run of more than three weeks since then. Instead, the movie occasionally sees boosts in popularity, like its one-week return to the charts in August 2025.
3. The Super Mario Bros. Movie
After a huge success in theaters, The Super Mario Bros. Movie quickly became popular on Netflix too. It started streaming on December 3, 2023, and stayed at the top of Netflix’s global charts for ten weeks.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie has stayed popular on Netflix, appearing in the top 10 overall for an impressive 24 weeks. It was a top 10 title for seven months out of twelve in 2024. As excitement builds for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is coming in 2026, The Super Mario Bros. Movie briefly reclaimed the record for most weeks in the top 10, returning in December 2025 for two weeks.
2. The Boss Baby
DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby is a huge hit on Netflix, consistently attracting viewers. It’s currently as popular as The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and has been featured in the top 10 global movies for an impressive 24 weeks.
A major reason for The Boss Baby‘s success is its consistent ability to attract a large audience for extended periods. It appeared in the top 10 charts for four weeks straight on three separate occasions: October 2022, June-July 2023, and August-September 2023. Even for shorter periods, like a week or two, The Boss Baby consistently returns to the charts, most recently in March 2026.
Neither The Boss Baby nor The Super Mario Bros. Movie are expected to take the top spot, as the current #1 movie has been in the top 10 for more than twice as long.
1. KPop Demon Hunters
Since its release on Netflix in June 2025, KPop Demon Hunters has become a massive hit, exceeding all predictions. It’s now the most-watched movie on the platform, and continues to be incredibly popular, remaining in the top 10 worldwide charts for an impressive 49 weeks straight.
The show continues to perform incredibly well. Since its release, it’s consistently remained in the weekly top 10 charts and is on track to stay there for a full year. This consistent success is remarkable – some would even say it’s a greater achievement than becoming the most-watched title ever on Netflix.
