Turn-based tactical RPG Runesmith announced for PC release

Terahard Studios has announced the turn-based tactical RPG Runesmith for PC (Steam).

In Runesmith, you play as a dwarven blacksmith who crafts weapons, adds magical runes to them, hires adventurers, and pursues a powerful enemy who has wronged you. A trailer for the game was recently shown at Indie Quest 2026. You can watch the trailer, see new images, and read the official announcement from Terahard Studios below.

Terahard Studios is thrilled to unveil its new game, Runesmith! This turn-based tactical RPG puts you in a dwarf’s boots, where you’ll forge runes, get into tavern fights, and create powerful combinations of effects – all in a day’s work.

Play as a grumpy dwarf blacksmith who’s more interested in getting paid than saving the world. You’ll craft weapons, inscribe powerful runes (that might backfire), gather a motley crew of adventurers, and track down the villain who has the audacity to owe you money. It’s not about heroism – it’s about collecting a debt.

Runesmith represents a long-held ambition for Terahard Studios – it’s our first dedicated role-playing game, something I’ve wanted to create throughout the company’s 13-year history. Dwarves and their rich backstory are incredibly appealing, and as a longtime Dungeons & Dragons player, I was eager to explore that world. Runesmith combines our signature humor with a robust crafting system, and both elements meaningfully impact the game’s combat.

The game’s debut trailer was revealed at the Indie Quest 2026 Showcase, and its Steam page is now live and accepting wishlists.

About Runesmith

Imagine living life as a dwarf from a fantasy world! Craft powerful runes onto mithril, enjoy a hearty amount of ale, and handle challenges like a true dwarf – with plenty of action in dungeons and taverns alike.

Assemble a crew of unlikely heroes and track down the incredibly powerful villain who’s threatening everyone. Don’t bother trying to save the world, though – this is about getting paid. You don’t swindle a dwarf and live to regret it.

Key Features

  • Rune-Smithing Crafting System – Forge weapons, armor, trinkets, and deeply irresponsible magical combinations through an extensive rune engraving system. Experiment with rune interactions that can chain or accidentally create problems significantly larger than the original problem.
  • Live Like a Proper Dwarf – Drink at taverns, brawl with strangers, accept questionable jobs, improve your forge, and wake up every morning fueled by spite, greed and industrial-grade ale.
  • A Story Driven by Petty Revenge – The world may be ending, but priorities matter. Chase down an all-powerful summoner not because he threatens existence, but because he skipped out on paying a dwarf.
  • You’ve played turn-based RPGs before & triggered Status Effects. But not like this. Every fight is a sandbox of unstable rune interactions where simple decisions can chain into devastating combos, catastrophic accidents, or spiral into complete tavern-grade stupidity. Add poison to a harmless fog, and suddenly the battlefield violates several dwarven safety regulations. Drink while drunk, and become hammered before ending up unconscious on the floor, questioning your ancestors. The combat system rewards creativity, recklessness, and the occasional alcoholism.
  • A Fantasy World Full of Idiots and Monsters – Explore towns, mines, ruins, taverns, dungeons, and ancient horrors while dealing with merchants, priests, nobles, and adventurers who somehow make the monsters seem reasonable.
