The movie originates from the pen and vision of director-screenwriter Kurt Martin, who’s known for “Moon Rock for Monday.” Filming is being handled by Lunar Pictures, a company based in Byron Bay.
“The Room Underneath
Rhys Meyers, hailing from Ireland, boasts a diverse resume with both Hollywood and international roles, such as in “Velvet Goldmine,” “The Tudors,” and “Dracula.” More recently, Sutherland has been seen in the TV series “Vikings” and the film “Evil Dead Rise.” Joining them in this production are Bobby Gilchrist, known for his roles in “Shapeless” and “The Invisible Raptor,” as well as Gilbert Bradman who has appeared in “Transfusion” and “The Twelve.
Martin expressed his excitement about being in production for “The Room Below,” a gripping psychological thriller that delves into themes of grief, guilt, and obsession. The storyline includes an eerie, one-of-a-kind monster that adds to the chilling atmosphere. He’s thrilled to be working alongside his ideal cast members and talented team of collaborators and crew.
Born in Australia, Martin initially pursued a career as a lawyer but later shifted his focus to directing and producing short films. His first feature directing project, “Moon Rock for Monday,” released in 2019, was acquired by Seville International (an arm of EOne) and distributed in North America by Cinedigm. The film was screened at various festivals such as those held in Zurich, Beijing, Adelaide, and Western Australia’s CinefestOZ, ultimately earning Martin a nomination for the best indie film at the 2021 AACTA awards. Since then, he has also produced Alex Proyas’s short film titled “Mask of the Evil Apparition.
The Room Below” is created by Jim Robison from Lunar Pictures, Chris Chard of CME, and Ty Linegar at MIK Studio. Executive producers for this project include Marc Furmie, William Ramsey, Colin Bates, Adam Callen, Samuel Levine, Roy Scott Macfarland, Clement Dunn, Emma Comley, and actress Jaime King.
