As a lifelong enthusiast of dance and reality television, I must admit that I found Anna Delvey’s recent comments regarding her time on “Dancing With The Stars” rather perplexing. Having spent countless hours on the show myself, I can confidently say that it has not only provided me with unforgettable experiences but also played a significant role in my personal and professional growth.
Not holding any grudges: Cheryl Burke, a professional dancer for 26 seasons on “Dancing With the Stars,” is addressing Anna Delvey’s claim that she gained nothing from her stint on the ABC dance competition.
“I believe that the feeling is mutual from the fans of show,” Burke tells EbMaster.
In the September 24 broadcast, Delvey and partner Ezra Sosa were among the first pair to be removed from the show this season; Tori Spelling and Pasha Pashkov also left at the same time. When asked by co-host Julianne Hough what she’d keep from the experience, Delvey simply said, “I don’t take anything.” Later, in an interview with “Good Morning America”, she was queried about her favorite aspect of the experience. Her reply? “Being eliminated.
Previously, Burke has openly expressed thoughts on Delvey, discussing them on her “Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans” podcast. After the show’s debut, she commented that Delvey, who gained notoriety by swindling banks, hotels, and individuals, ought to reveal more about herself in order for America to consider voting for her.
During the September 19th episode, she expressed that most Americans probably wouldn’t understand her character due to being quite dry and humorous. She hopes, however, that either Ezra or another character might help reveal her humanity because she isn’t just a robot. There’s got to be some heart inside her, right? I wish there could be more emotional depth shown, like if something could stir up feelings in her.
She went on to say, “People are not pleased that she’s part of the show. However, the only means by which she can sway public opinion is by displaying emotion. This is crucial… Her reluctance to be open and vulnerable continues to leave a bitter taste in people’s mouths. Unfortunately, for a show like this, you either embrace the process and are ready to give it your all, or you’re not, and you’re trying to come off as aloof or trying to redefine yourself. However, just focus on the work because the self-transformation will occur naturally if you simply concentrate on what lies ahead – your next dance.
Besides Burke, other members of the “Dancing With the Stars” clan have also addressed Delvey’s remarks following her elimination.
On “The Talk” on Wednesday, co-host Amanda Kloots, who participated in Season 30 of the program, declared that the show had been truly transformative for her. “It helped me in ways I could have never imagined,” Kloots expressed. She found it unfortunate that someone claimed they received no benefit from it.
Alfonso Ribeiro, one of the co-hosts on “DWTS” and a winner from Season 19, concurred. “My life has undergone a significant transformation… it’s thanks to that show that my career is thriving again; I owe everything to it,” he stated.
Prior to the premiere of the new season, showrunner Conrad Green addressed the criticism surrounding the casting of felon Delvey. “I believe there’s an intrinsic fascination with her,” he stated. “She’s deeply involved in fashion and similar spheres, so I think she’ll prove to be a compelling dancer. People seem eager to see her.” He further explained that Delvey is an essential component of the cast. “Yes, she has her past issues, but we’ve had characters on our show with criminal backgrounds before. She served her time. I believe it’s appropriate for her to be part of our show, and viewers are intrigued to see how she performs.
