TikTok dad sparks debate after dancing with daughter to Diddy’s ‘I’ll be missing you’

As a long-time observer and participant in the ever-evolving world of social media, I find myself constantly navigating the complexities that come with it. The recent controversy surrounding Cole LaBrant and his stepdaughter’s dance to Diddy’s cover of ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ is a perfect example of this.

On the social media platform TikTok, a well-known pair consisting of a father and daughter drew flak when they shared a dance video set to a cover version of a song by Diddy.

Cole LaBrant, the social media sensation with a following of 23 million on TikTok, ignited a discussion by performing a dance routine to Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ cover of ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ alongside his 11-year-old stepdaughter.

On September 20, LaBrant chose to join the popular ‘I’ll be missing you’ trend that swept through social media in August 2023 by posting about it on various platforms.

After online users deemed the content unpalatable, the video creator removed the post, which he had initially shared on both TikTok and Instagram.

Hey there, gaming buddy! I’ve had my fair share of controversy, but you know what they say – any publicity is good publicity. My stepdaughter and I have been making waves on social media, often by busting moves to tunes like “Pour Me A Drink” by Post Malone and “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey. We’ve definitely had our moments in the limelight, that’s for sure!

Furthermore, it’s noteworthy that his stepdaughter frequently creates the dance routines for them, which has garnered a lot of praise from spectators regarding her dancing skills.

This time around, their ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ dance performance sparked intense debate among online users, with some questioning whether it was tastefully done following the arrest of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs on charges of sex-trafficking and racketeering on September 16.

“That was the cringiest video I’ve seen in awhile,” said one viewer. “They’re literally exploiting their child for views and influencing so what do you expect?” asked another.

In addition to facing criticism, LaBrant and his stepdaughter also received backing from their considerable fan base.

“Let him be, he’s simply dancing with his little girl,” said one. “This tune remains fantastic. It’s essential to distinguish the artwork from the creator,” commented another.

After their “I’ll Be Missing You” video went viral and was subsequently removed, neither LaBrant nor his stepdaughter have shared any content on TikTok.

Another well-known TikTok family faced criticism last September, accused of leaving their young children unattended in their bedroom during a cruise trip.

Matt and Abby Howard, the TikTok pair, asserted that they utilized FaceTime to keep watch over their 12-month-olds while dining out on the ship, however, this sparked criticism because it was perceived as neglectful parenting.
