Star Wars’ Rey Replacement Sets Up The New Jedi Order Coming In 2026

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m really excited about the next chapter! Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker has been such a central figure for years, especially as the lead in the sequel trilogy. She truly took on the mantle of the Skywalker legacy, and now, it looks like we’ll see her efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order come to fruition on screen in 2026. It’s great to know the story continues after The Rise of Skywalker and that a new Jedi Order is on the horizon!

Rey will remain a central figure in the future of Star Wars. Her story will continue in several upcoming movies, including a new trilogy from Simon Kinberg and the currently unreleased New Jedi Order film. Rey is incredibly important to Star Wars, both within the story and to its fans. However, the franchise has also introduced a new character who could potentially take on her role, particularly in the effort to restore the Jedi Order.

The animated series Star Wars: Visions, which isn’t part of the official Star Wars storyline, features a character named Lah Kara who shares many similarities with Rey. Both are young women strong in the Force, living at a time when there are very few Jedi left, and both are meant to restore the Jedi Order. However, a new Star Wars show will allow Kara to actually rebuild the Order, and it’s scheduled to come out in 2026.

Star Wars: Visions’ Lah Kara Will Rebuild The Jedi Order Before Rey Does

While Star Wars: Visions is typically a series of standalone stories, the tale of Lah Kara in The Ninth Jedi is unique. Out of all the Visions episodes, only The Ninth Jedi and The Duel are getting follow-up stories in season 3. Now, The Ninth Jedi is going even further with its own separate show on Disney+, coming out in late 2026. This new series, Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi, will actually show the rebuilding of the Jedi Order before Rey does in The New Jedi Order.

In the Visions episodes, Lah Kara teams up with three other Jedi survivors, bringing the total number of Jedi to nine. However, instead of focusing on rebuilding the Jedi Order, Kara convinces her new companions – Margrave Juro, Ethan, and Homen – to help her rescue her father. He’s the creator of their lightsabers and was captured by Sith bounty hunters in season one of Visions.

The upcoming Ninth Jedi series will finally show Kara and her allies working to restore the Jedi Order. With a likely eight or more episodes, the show can focus on finding Kara’s father and beginning the search for other Jedi and individuals strong with the Force. It’s still unknown if they’ll train new students from a young age or seek out adults with Force abilities, but The Ninth Jedi appears poised to deliver on the long-awaited promise of rebuilding the Jedi.

The upcoming story, The Ninth Jedi, is expected to move forward before New Jedi Order even gets started, as New Jedi Order doesn’t have a planned release date yet. It seems Star Wars is still figuring out its direction after the sequel trilogy. While Star Wars: Starfighter takes place in that time period, it isn’t the next main installment, and it’s unclear if Rey will even be involved. At this rate, the Visions animated anthology may end up advancing the Star Wars story further than the main films and shows.

The Ninth Jedi Could Usher In A New Era Of Star Wars

As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I’m really intrigued by the news about The Ninth Jedi. It’s exciting to think we’ll finally see a new Jedi Order established on screen! But honestly, it feels like the franchise needs this right now. Let’s face it, things haven’t been smooth sailing lately. Films like The Rise of Skywalker and the show The Acolyte really split fans, and even The Mandalorian and Grogu didn’t perform as well as Disney hoped. It’s clear they need to try something fresh, and The Ninth Jedi could be exactly that.

As a fan, I’m really hoping Star Wars: Visions shows Disney and Lucasfilm the way forward. If the Ninth Jedi show does well, it could prove that Star Wars stories that aren’t tied to the main timeline can still be huge hits. That would mean they can take more risks and try new things without worrying about fitting everything into the Skywalker saga. I’d love to see more of the Visions stories expanded too – something like The Duel getting its own series would be amazing!

If successful, The Ninth Jedi has the potential to expand the Star Wars universe in exciting new directions, moving beyond the Skywalker family saga. It could also lead to a renewed focus on 2D animation, offering a different visual style than Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Ultimately, this series, inspired by Star Wars: Visions, might generate enthusiasm for Rey Skywalker’s future appearances in films.
