Keanu Reeves Asks for Mercy for Director in Netflix Fraud Case

Keanu Reeves is requesting the judge to be lenient when sentencing Carl Rinsch, the director of his film 47 Ronin. Rinsch was found guilty of defrauding Netflix out of $11 million, after being convicted in December of charges including money laundering, unlawful financial dealings, and wire fraud.

Okay, so here’s a bizarre story. Remember Gavin Rinsch, the director Netflix gave a serious chunk of change to for this ambitious sci-fi series, White Horse? Well, the show never happened. Instead of funding the production, it looks like he went on a massive spending spree. We’re talking Ferraris, Rolls-Royces, crypto investments, and… well, a lot of luxury goods. According to reports, he dropped over $650,000 on watches and clothes, and nearly $640,000 on mattresses! Seriously, almost $640,000 on mattresses? And let’s not forget the nearly $300,000 spent on high-end bedding. It’s a wild tale of mismanagement, to say the least, and a project that sadly never saw the light of day.

Reeves penned a letter requesting leniency in the sentencing of a friend and coworker. He also mentioned that he thought White Horse had the potential to be a great show, describing it as a remarkable and innovative piece of art, even though it wasn’t completed.

He believes Carl sometimes undermines his own deals by overcomplicating them, which creates conflict with the other parties involved. He’s not trying to excuse Carl’s actions, but rather offer a possible explanation for them.

Rinsch could face up to ten years in prison for his offenses. He’s also likely to have to repay Netflix $11 million and may be required to pay an additional $4.4 million in court costs. His sentencing is scheduled for June 29th, and we’ll then know if the arguments made on his behalf were successful.
