All American Season 7 cast “exodus” proves fans were right to be worried

As a dedicated fan who has journeyed through the highs and lows of this beloved show since its inception, I must confess that the recent casting news for All American Season 7 leaves me with a heavy heart. After years of investing my emotions into the lives of these characters, it’s hard to imagine a new generation stepping into their shoes without the original cast that made us fall in love with this story in the first place.

For several months now, viewers have been arguing that the show has been on a downward spiral – and with the recent shocking casting revelation regarding All American Season 7, there seems to be some validity to their concerns.

Should you have been following updates about All American Season 7 (as yet not announced), you’d be aware that significant shifts have occurred.

Originally starred by Taye Diggs, the series saw him depart during Season 5. Later on, the main actor Daniel Ezra decided to step down before the plot for Season 7 was fully developed. Fans have already labeled this as a “disaster,” but recent developments have added to their concerns.

As per a recent update from TV Line, out of the initial seven cast members who are coming back, merely three have secured contracts for the upcoming season. This implies that an astonishing five crucial characters could depart the series in a mass departure or “exodus”.

It has been confirmed that Michael Evans Behling, Greta Onieogou, and Bre-Z will be main characters in the show, but Samantha Logan, Cody Christian, Karimah Westbrook, Monét Mazur, and Chelsea Tavares will not be series regulars.

Despite some concerns among fans, The CW is making an effort to reassure them that not everything is grim. Specifically, Ezra will be returning to direct episodes in Season 7, and there are hints that other beloved original characters may make a comeback – though their identities remain a mystery at this point.

For now, All American Season 7 is shifting unwanted focus towards two fresh characters who are set to take over. The series’ summary goes: “Returning to the roots: Beverly Hills High School and South Crenshaw High School.

The heart remains the same, along with the NFL ambition, the fierce crosstown rivalry, the chaotic teenage hormones – all of which a fresh batch of L.A. youth, a new coach at Beverly, and our original Vortex family are experiencing. What’s unexpected is that they’ve been thrust into the role of responsible grown-ups now.

At first glance, it may appear as if nothing new is happening, yet a significant number of enthusiasts have already lost interest. Given how swiftly and drastically these events are unfolding, their skepticism seems completely justified.

“I noticed that none of the original AA’s main cast members are coming back. Could it be possible for these characters to appear on the show instead, or is there a reason they’re not ending it properly? Seems strange all-around, right?

A second individual concurred, “I doubt it. It wouldn’t be logical. They’re simply adding new characters as regulars. American Adolescence was primarily about Spencer, and if Spencer is no longer the central character, what’s the purpose? AAHC could have had a satisfying conclusion instead, given that it’s only Simone’s junior year.

A third fan expresses their decision: “I’ve chosen not to watch Season 7 because some key characters who form the core of the show will no longer be there. The exit of Taye was a major blow, and now Daniel is officially leaving as well, along with others whose departures are unofficial. It just won’t feel the same.

I regret to say that the current setup of the characters doesn’t captivate me enough to continue, perhaps they weren’t meant to be main characters. I hope those who will watch next season enjoy it, and I apologize in advance for any misfortune that may befall the new leads. The responsibility of being a leader is indeed a heavy burden.

Ready to give All American Season 7 a shot? The fresh installments will debut in 2025! Until then, you can catch up on Seasons 1-6 by streaming them on Netflix.
