As a critic, I’m consistently blown away by the casting choices in Dirty John. The first season assembled an absolutely incredible group – Eric Bana, Connie Britton, Juno Temple, Julia Garner, and Jean Smart, just to name a few. But what’s really impressive is they didn’t rest on their laurels. Season two brought in a whole new set of phenomenal actors like Christian Slater, Amanda Peet, and Rachel Keller. Honestly, if you’re looking for a show to binge on Netflix this week, Dirty John deserves your attention solely for the sheer talent on screen.

Dirty John Leaves Netflix On May 31 – Only Days Left To Watch

Both seasons of the true crime series Dirty John will be removed from Netflix on May 31st, so you only have a few days left to watch it. The show started as an 8-episode limited series in 2018 and continued with a second 8-episode season in 2020, becoming an anthology series. It’s based on the popular podcast of the same name by Christopher Goffard, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, which has been downloaded over 50 million times. Dirty John tells the stories of relationships gone wrong, based on real-life events.

The first season of Dirty John tells the story of Debra Newell (Connie Britton), a woman living a seemingly idyllic life in Newport Beach, California. Everything changes when she meets John Meehan (Eric Bana), a charming doctor who seems like the missing piece she’s been searching for. However, Debra falls head-over-heels for him despite the growing concerns of her daughters, Terra (Julia Garner) and Veronica (Juno Temple). Frustrated by their mother’s eagerness for love, the daughters begin to investigate John’s mysterious background. As they uncover secrets from his past, the family realizes the man isn’t who he appears to be, leading to a tragic outcome.

Season two of Dirty John tells a story similar to the first, focusing on the troubled marriage of Betty (Amanda Peet) and Dan Broderick (Christian Slater), who were high school sweethearts. Although the season received good reviews – earning a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Golden Globe nomination for Connie Britton – the USA Network decided not to renew the show for a third season.

I remember when Dirty John came out in 2018 – everyone was talking about it! It had such a great cast, which is why I was a little surprised it didn’t last longer than two seasons. Both seasons told these unbelievable true crime stories, the kind you really have to see to believe, packed with twists and turns. Even knowing how the first story goes, Connie Britton, Eric Bana, and the whole cast made it so gripping and brought it to life in a way that totally pulled me in – it’s definitely worth binging!

With the first two seasons of Dirty John leaving Netflix at the end of the weekend, now’s the time to watch it! The series, created by Alexandra Cunningham – who also brought us scandalous hits like 56 Days and the 2023 Fatal Attraction reboot – is a compelling binge.
