God of War Ragnarok's PSN PC Requirement Has Been Removed By A Modder

As a seasoned gamer with decades of digital battles under my belt, I must confess that the God of War Ragnarok’s PC release has left me feeling more like Odin bewildered by the Nornir’s prophecy than Kratos facing off against the Fimbulwinter. The requirement to connect to PlayStation Network for a single-player game is as puzzling as a riddle from Yggdrasil itself!

God of War Ragnarok transitioned from PlayStation 5 to PC earlier this month, but the excitement around the game is somewhat dampened due to Sony’s policy requiring PC players to connect to PlayStation Network simply to play the game. This mandate has sparked discontent among gamers, leading to negative reviews for the PC version on Steam. However, a creative modder has already found a method to circumvent Sony’s restriction.

According to IGN, a modder known as iArtorias has launched the NoPSSDK mod, which eliminates the PSN linking requirement and allows God of War Ragnarok to be played offline. iArtorias also indicated on their Nexus Mods page that they will strive to keep the tool updated, hoping that no major changes occur.

Since Sony firmly stands against wavering on this matter, it seems almost certain that they will challenge iArtorias’ mod and any others which eliminate the PlayStation Network (PSN) necessity in Ragnarok. However, it remains puzzling as to why Sony incorporated this PSN requirement into a single-player game like Ragnarok, given its offline nature. It appears more logical to apply PSN for multiplayer games that genuinely demand an online connection. The question arises as to why Ragnarok should be subjected to the same limitations when it doesn’t necessitate online play.

Initially, Sony demonstrated a readiness to concede when they eliminated the PSN requirement for Helldivers 2 following public criticism. Yet, the forthcoming remake of Until Dawn will necessitate a constant PSN connection. If Sony persists in implementing this PSN requirement in future PC games, it could become a persistent annoyance for gamers.
