Dead by Daylight is getting a new killer: Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th! He’s joining the game just in time for its 10th anniversary. The developers showed off a trailer and revealed the release date and details about the iconic, hockey-mask-wearing villain, adding another great character to an already impressive roster of monsters. When can players actually play as Jason? That’s what everyone wants to know!
Dead By Daylight Jason Vorhees Release Date
The iconic horror villain Jason Voorhees, known as “The Slasher,” will join the multiplayer game Dead By Daylight on June 16th, 2026. Dead By Daylight is playable on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One & Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Jason Voorhees is the villain from the Friday the 13th movies. Though he wasn’t the primary killer in the very first film, Jason went on to become the main antagonist in the following eleven movies, cementing his place as a legendary figure in horror cinema.
The game’s latest update includes details about a new playable character, often called a ‘killer’, according to the developer’s notes.
Jason’s special ability is called Omnipresent Evil. When he uses it, he turns invisible, making him impossible for Survivors to detect. While invisible, he can’t see Survivors or their footprints, but he can see them if they’re standing still within Mist Clouds. Footprints will still show him where Survivors have been running or walking.
Jason’s ability, Jump Scare, allows him to instantly move to a pallet, breakable wall, or window and quickly break or vault it. Holding the secondary action button while using Jump Scare will change which direction Jason faces. Using this ability also ends his Omnipresent Evil Mode, gives him a speed boost (Haste), and highlights any Survivors he detects with Killer Instinct.
Jason can also use Throwing Spikes, which he obtains from either the Scrap Pile or the Hook. To use them, hold the Secondary Action button to prepare a Spike, then press the Attack button to throw it. He gets more Spikes as he uses his Omnipresent Evil ability throughout the map.
Spikes push survivors back and cause a small amount of damage. Getting hit by a Hook Spike causes extra damage and prevents the survivor from healing beyond their initial injured state. This also makes them visible to the killer with a special aura. If an injured survivor is hit by a Spike and slammed into a wall, they’ll be both impaled and unable to move.
With these abilities, Jason has ways of navigating the map unseen to catch up to Survivors.
Overall, Jason has three new Killer Perks:
- Hex: Scared to Death
- After you hook 3 different Survivors, a Dull Totem ignites.
- While chasing a Survivor, whenever you basic-break a Pallet, Survivors within 13m:
- Scream.
- Gain 11/12/13% Hindered for 3s.
- Silent Shadow
- When the trial starts, you gain Undetectable for 11/12/13s or until you down a Survivor.
- When all Generators are completed, you gain Undetectable.
- Rampage
- Whenever you basic-break a Pallet or Breakable Wall, you earn 1 Token, up to 13.
- Whenever you are blinded or Pallet-stunned, for the next 13s you gain 1% Haste for each Token. Cooldown: 30/25/20s.
In Silent Shadow, it’s crucial to pay close attention to where The Slasher is, particularly at the start and finish of each game.
We’re excited to welcome this famous villain to Dead By Daylight! He’s joining a growing list of killers already in the game, like Michael Myers, Chucky, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, Pyramid Head, and many others.
