Pokemon Legends Z-A gives Gastly a third redesign in three generations

Pokemon Legends Z-A has given Gastly another makeover, its third redesign in just three years.

Gastly is a Pokemon that always stands out – it’s well-known and a classic, but also because its appearance has evolved over time.

In 2022, Legends Arceus had a visual update that made its atmosphere much darker and more somber than the initial designs. Scarlet and Violet then brought back the same model, but brightened the colors, returning it closer to the original color scheme.

Okay, so Legends Z-A just dropped two versions, and honestly, the fanbase is *already* going wild trying to figure out which one is better. It’s a total split decision, and everyone’s got an opinion on which version really hits the mark. I’m seeing arguments *everywhere*!

What’s new with Gastly? It still has its classic look: a black orb-shaped body, intense eyes, and its signature smirk. However, the gaseous cloud surrounding it has been updated. It’s now denser and more colorful near the center, gradually becoming fainter towards the edges.

The light in its eyes seems more intense, almost exaggerated like in a cartoon, which is how some longtime fans recall it from the original anime. Shiny hunters will be happy to hear that this version is much easier to identify when encountered in the game.

People are already sharing their thoughts in the comments. One fan posted, “The Gengar evolution line receives the best updates, with the exception of Gengar’s standard shiny form. 😭”

Honestly, I heard someone say that SV Gastly was really awful. They were talking about trying to shiny hunt one, and they said that from even a little ways off, they all just looked blue. It made it super frustrating, apparently!

Some viewers reacted positively, noting: “The visual effect reminds me of classic anime, with brighter, more intense colors closer to the center. The outer edges are fainter as the effect fades out, which is a really neat touch!”

Legends Z-A launches on October 16th, and while fans are enjoying the updated design of Gastly, the recent trailer has caused some confusion and concern about a potentially flawed battle system.
