Capcom is undoubtedly one of, if not the, most successful developer of 2026.
The year started strong with the highly-rated Resident Evil: Requiem. A few months later, Pragmata also made a big impression. And Monster Hunter Series 3: Twisted Reflection continued the series’ recent success, adding to a great year for games.
It’s unusual to see so many successful game releases consistently, which feels different from what we typically expect in the video game industry. And there’s more coming, with the return of the Onimusha series in ‘Onimusha: Way of the Sword’.
Considering how long and expensive game development is becoming, it’s impressive that Capcom consistently releases high-quality games. A key to their success is combining the power of artificial intelligence with the talent of their creative teams, helping them work more efficiently.
“We Are Using AI Not to Create Art, But to Unlock the Potential of Creators”

In a recent interview with 4gamer.net, Shinichi Inoue and Kazuki Abe from Capcom talked about the difficulties they faced while making the game, and explained how they overcame those challenges.
One of the biggest challenges facing the gaming industry is that making games has become incredibly expensive and time-consuming. Games are growing in scope, which naturally increases production costs. When you add in the larger teams needed to create these games, it’s no surprise that development takes longer and costs more than it used to.
Inoue puts it best:
Creative projects now involve so many repetitive tasks that the process is becoming incredibly complicated, even beyond just dealing with a lot of content.
In the past, programmers could fix issues by checking a handful of places, maybe ten, according to one expert. Now, that number has grown to thousands of checks, which is very time-consuming. This quality control process isn’t just about finding bugs, though. It’s about ensuring the final game delivers the intended experience. As one developer put it, the real challenge—and the enjoyable part—is making sure the team’s vision comes through in the final product.
It’s crucial that a game not only works correctly, but also stays true to the creative vision behind it. Testers need to provide feedback on both technical issues – is the game polished and smooth? – and design choices, ensuring everything aligns with the director’s goals. Artificial intelligence can help speed up this process, freeing developers from repetitive tasks so they can focus on being creative.
Capcom Has Utilized This AI Process in 6 to 8 Games
Because AI is being used in important ways, it’s crucial to be clear about how we’re using it and what we’re not using it for.

According to Kazuki Abe, the aim is to use AI to automate the repetitive parts of creative processes. While AI will handle the bulk of the work, humans will remain in control, ensuring quality by both providing initial instructions and reviewing the final results. They’re developing a system where AI efficiently manages the steps in between.
Many developers are finding a good balance by using AI to handle repetitive tasks, freeing up their human developers to focus on more creative work. Blizzard Entertainment, for instance, aims to use AI to eliminate tedious tasks and empower its developers to be more innovative. Similarly, Square Enix is planning to automate 70% of its quality assurance and debugging processes with AI.
Capcom is strategically using AI in game development, but they’re being careful about how they talk about it. According to Inoue, they don’t want to publicly announce their AI usage because they want to emphasize their commitment to artists, developers, and fans. Their goal isn’t to have AI create the art, but to help creators achieve even more.
