007 First Light: How to Solve the Hidden Mechanism Animal Puzzle

In 007 First Light, you’ll frequently need to make choices during both action-packed fights and sneaky stealth sections. Puzzles aren’t a major focus, but they pop up occasionally throughout the game’s story.

Early in the game 007 First Light, you’ll face a puzzle while tracking a suspicious blonde bellman. You need to open a secret passage by setting the dials to the right combination, and discovering that combination can be challenging.

It took me a while to figure out this secret door, even though the solution was actually quite obvious! If you’re stuck trying to open it, this guide will help. Keep reading to learn how to solve the puzzle in 007 First Light.

Hidden Mechanism Solution in 007 First Light

As soon as Bond enters the room with the secret device, he notices a note on a table. After reading it, he realizes it’s written in a foreign language he doesn’t fully understand. Despite this, the note hints at the location of the hidden mechanism.

Look above the fireplace on the north wall to find a hidden mechanism – it’s hard to overlook! It’s made up of six dials, each featuring a different animal. Your goal is to press the correct three dials, but random guessing won’t work. You’ll need to find clues hidden around the room to figure out the right combination.

Take a look at the flags hanging around the room. You’ll notice a strange creature painted on them. At first glance, it might not seem important – it doesn’t resemble the animal symbols on the hidden mechanism’s dials. However, a closer look at this creature will actually give you the answer you’re looking for.

Okay, so I took a really close look at that creature on the flag, and it’s actually made up of three different animals! The tail is a snake, the rider is a goat, and the face is totally a lion. That means to unlock this thing, I need to set the dials to snake, lion, then goat. Got it!

Once you turn those three dials, a secret panel will slide open, revealing a path forward. This path takes you to the next part of the game and brings you closer to finding the blonde bellman, who seems to have the information you’re looking for.

Just be aware that once you enter the doorway, it will shut behind you, forcing you to move ahead. So, if you want to fully explore the area or finish anything up, it’s best to do that beforehand. Don’t worry though – if you want to revisit this area later, you can always replay the mission using chapter select after completing the game.
