As a long-time follower of the wrestling world and a connoisseur of documentary films, I find myself intrigued by the upcoming Netflix release “Mr. McMahon.” Having grown up watching WWE and witnessing Vince McMahon‘s transformation from a behind-the-scenes figure to the larger-than-life character we all know today, it’s fascinating to see him speak out against this documentary before its release.
Previously holding the position of WWE’s head, Vince McMahon has expressed his opposition to the upcoming Netflix documentary series titled “Mr. McMahon” before it premieres.
On his former Twitter account, McMahon expressed that he has no regrets about being part of the Netflix documentary. He believed it could have presented an impartial portrayal of his life and the remarkable business he constructed, encompassing excitement, drama, enjoyment, and a moderate dose of controversy and life lessons. However, after viewing an early, incomplete edit, McMahon feels that the film disappoints by following a predictable pattern, merging the “Mr. McMahon” persona with his true identity, Vince. The title and advertisements make this fusion obvious.
He went on to say, ‘There’s been a great deal of distortion or omission for the purpose of deliberately confusing viewers.’ He explained, ‘Producers manipulate footage out of context and use old soundbites, among other tricks, to warp the audience’s viewpoint and uphold a deceptive storyline.’ To strengthen their false portrayal, they cite a lawsuit stemming from an affair I ended as proof that I am indeed ‘Mr. McMahon.’ He urged viewers to stay objective and remember that every tale has its own perspective.
On September 25th, I’m excited to share that the series about “Mr. McMahon” will be available in full on Netflix. This captivating series spans six one-hour episodes, delving into McMahon’s personal journey, from inheriting the WWF from his father to his departure from the company after accusations of sexual misconduct and trafficking by a former WWE employee were made public.
This show includes interviews with McMahon personally, as well as renowned WWE veterans such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena, and Paul “Triple H” Levesque.
In this documentary series, Chris Smith takes on the roles of both director and executive producer. Meanwhile, Bill Simmons and Zara Duffy are the executive producers for “Mr. McMahon.” This production is a joint venture between Library Films and Ringer Films.
