As a seasoned film critic with over three decades of experience under my belt (and a few gray hairs to show for it), I must say that Kyle Chandler is quickly becoming the go-to man for superhero roles. After his stellar performance as John Coffey in “The Green Mile” and Coach Taylor in “Friday Night Lights,” it’s no surprise that he’s being courted for the lead role in HBO’s “Lanterns.

Reports indicate that Kyle Chandler may be set to take on the main character in HBO’s “Lanterns” version of Green Lantern, according to information from our trusted sources.

It’s said that Chandler could take on the role of Hal Jordan if he joins the show. The storyline will focus on Jordan and John Stewart, both part of the Green Lantern Corps. As of now, no actor has been cast for Stewart’s character.

Representatives for HBO and Warner Bros. Television chose not to provide a statement, while representatives for Chandler were yet to respond to EbMaster’s request for a comment.

Chandler has joined the cast as the most recent prominent figure in the show, following earlier reports that Josh Brolin was initially given the opportunity to play Hal Jordan but declined.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing Kyle Chandler’s exceptional talent unfold on both the small and big screens. Most notably, he captured our hearts as the charismatic coach in “Friday Night Lights,” a gripping high school football drama that graced NBC for five seasons. This captivating performance earned him an Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama Series in 2011.

He is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the captivating series “Lanterns” was secured by HBO way back in June, promising an eight-episode journey. According to the plot summary, our protagonists – the greenhorn Stewart and the legendary Jordan – are a pair of interstellar law enforcers who find themselves entangled in a chilling, earthbound enigma. Their mission: delve into a murder that unfolded in the heartland of America.

Chris Mundy takes on the roles of writer, series manager, and top producer for the upcoming show. Damon Lindelof and Tom King will join as co-producers and collaborate with Mundy in scripting “Lanterns.” Warner Bros. Television, DC Studios, and HBO are teaming up to produce the series, which is inspired by the DC comic book titled “Green Lantern.

Among various significant initiatives unveiled under the DC Studios brand, spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran, are projects like “Lanterns.” The live-action show “The Penguin,” featuring Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti, has already premiered, while “Creature Commandos,” an animated series, is set to air on Max in December. Additionally, Gunn is working on the second season of the DC show “Peacemaker” starring John Cena.

Deadline first reported Chandler being in talks for “Lanterns.”
