Michael Bay’s sci-fi show, which many have forgotten about, is now heading to a streaming service. All five seasons will be available soon, eight years after it originally aired on TNT.
I’m so excited! Netflix just announced that The Last Ship is coming to the service on June 22, 2026! For those who don’t know, it originally aired on TNT from 2014 to 2018, and it ran for five seasons with a total of 56 episodes. It’s never been on Netflix before, so this is a great chance for anyone who missed it to finally give this awesome, but seriously underrated, drama a watch. I think a lot of us fans have been waiting for this!
Michael Bay Executive Produced The Last Ship
Bay was an executive producer on the show, working with Jack Bender, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, Hank Steinberg, Steven Kane, and Jonathan Mostow. Steinberg and Kane developed the series, which is based on William Brinkley’s 1988 novel of the same name. The story starts after a worldwide pandemic wipes out more than 80% of the population. Among the survivors are the crew of the USS Nathan James, a U.S. Navy destroyer. They must find a cure and save what’s left of humanity.
When developing a series, it’s always important to really get to know the characters,” said Steinberg in an interview with Crime Spree Magazine. “We challenge them with difficult situations to reveal their true personalities and hidden strengths. It’s fascinating to see how they cope with overwhelming odds and discover their inner courage.
I’m fascinated by the characters’ ongoing conflicts and how they develop, while still feeling relatable. We make sure they’re imperfect, and they’re always striving to do what’s right, even when facing overwhelming challenges.
Eric Dane Led the Ensemble Cast of The Last Ship
Eric Dane, known for his role in Grey’s Anatomy, starred as Commander Tom Chandler in the series. The show also featured Adam Baldwin (Full Metal Jacket), Rhona Mitra (Supergirl), Charles Parnell (Top Gun: Maverick), Travis Van Winkle (Friday the 13th), Marissa Neitling (San Andreas), John Pyper-Ferguson (Hamilton’s Quest), Jocko Sims (New Amsterdam), Fay Masterson (The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking), Hiroyuki Sanada (Mortal Kombat II), LaMonica Garrett (Sons of Anarchy), and Jodie Turner-Smith (Tron: Ares).
Throughout its seasons, The Last Ship also featured a number of well-known actors in guest roles. Viewers might recognize faces like Peter Weller, Dichen Lachman (from Severance), Titus Welliver (Bosch), Alfre Woodard (Luke Cage), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Fantastic Four: First Steps), Jose Pablo Cantillo (The Walking Dead), Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga), and Jade Chynoweth (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), just to name a few.
The Last Ship will start streaming on Netflix on June 22.
