So, one of the voice actors for Marathon – the game – recently spoke up about all the negativity online. Basically, they told people who are hoping the game fails to just… stop talking about it on Twitter. It’s frustrating to see that kind of stuff, and they just want the negativity to end, which I totally get as a gamer!
So, I’ve been checking out Bungie’s new shooter, and honestly, while it got some good reviews when it launched in March, it hasn’t really taken off. I’m seeing way fewer people playing it compared to Destiny 2, especially on Steam. It feels like it’s mostly just us dedicated fans keeping it going right now.
On May 21, 2026, Bungie revealed that the June 9th update for Destiny 2, called Monument of Triumph, would be the final update for the game.
Marathon was often discussed in relation to Highguard and Concord, two games that received a lot of criticism and were eventually shut down soon after they were released.
Marathon voice actor “doesn’t understand” Marathon hate
Elias Toufexis, the voice of the Assassin in the new shooter game, recently told PC Gamer he’s puzzled by the negativity directed at both Marathon and Concord. He specifically mentioned being confused by comments on X (formerly Twitter) where people expressed hope that those games would fail.
I’m open to feedback on the game and my work, that’s fine. But it’s strange to see people online making memes hoping it will fail. Why would someone spend so much time trying to see something fail?

He said life is too short to waste time arguing online. “Just stop getting into pointless debates for a few hours,” he urged, explaining that he thinks people mostly just want to find something to complain about, and it’s more depressing than anything else.
I was really surprised to hear Toufexis talk about Destiny 2. He basically said that if fans feel like the work he put into Marathon took attention away from Destiny 2, then we should show it by not spending money on the game. It’s a pretty direct message, but I get where he’s coming from.
After Bungie announced they were ending support for Destiny 2, fans reacted by leaving negative reviews for Marathon, a game from a Bungie founder. Since then, a petition asking Sony, Bungie’s parent company, to approve the creation of a new Destiny game, Destiny 3, has gathered over 170,000 signatures.
