Chinese AI company launches “95% accurate” pet translator

A new company in China says it’s created a device using artificial intelligence to understand what pets are trying to tell us, and translate their barks, meows, and other signals into words humans can understand.

For years, apps claiming to translate what pets are thinking have been mostly for fun, lacking any scientific basis. But a new device from Chinese startup Meng Xiaoyi, located in Hangzhou, claims to actually understand animals.

The company began taking preorders for the device in early May and has announced that pet owners have already reserved 10,000 units.

The device explained

This AI translator costs 799 yuan, which is about $118. It works using Alibaba Cloud’s Qwen language model and analyzes animal sounds based on data about their bodies and behaviors.

This device is worn like a collar and claims to understand a pet’s behavior, sounds, and feelings, then translate them into words humans can understand – with a reported accuracy of around 95%.

Despite their promises, people are hesitant because the company hasn’t released any data or research to prove what their device can do.

The company raised $1 million from initial investors, which suggests they believed in the concept and its future, though it doesn’t guarantee the technology performs perfectly as described.
